That article seems to point towards an Obama re-election. His poll numbers are bad but better than the numbers for Democrats or Republicans. I was surprised to see the poll numbers better for the Democratic party than the Republican party.

If things don't get any better, his numbers may very well be lower than the numbers for Democrats or Republicans. Two more years could be very ugly for Obama.

Let me rephrase: The Republicans would need to pick a moderate candidate who isn't a senior citizen and doesn't choose a running mate solely to appease a portion of his/her party.

There is no "may very well be lower" about that. If things don't get better, I agree it will be ugly for Obama. You would think at some point things would turn. We have been in this recessionary cycle for about 5 years now. But who knows. I believe a lot of the current economic woes around the world are the world economy absorbing the new China economy. It is growing pains as China is a producer much more than a consumer of goods. Until China's consumption ramps up significantly, the world wide recession may continue. And that would be bad for all of us, including Obama.

1) Depends on whom the Republicans put forth as their candidate.

2) Bush was primed to be defeated in 2004.

3) Until the Dems put forth Kerry as the candidate.

4) Reps repeat such a nomination and Obama wins hands down.

 

Number 1 is huge. The GOP needs a good candidate. Hopefully they won't go with Palin. I'd probably vote for a 3rd Party rather than have to choose between her or Obama.

Honestly, had McCain not picked Palin in 08, I would have voted for him. I was really torn between the two. The two things that turned me off McCain were his selection of Palin, and his methods of debating.

I think many voters would agree with you. It just goes to show that you can't just rely on demographics. I am sure McCain looked at Palin and said female and right winger and strong pro-life and thought he closed up all of his weaknesses. But if you raise the hood on that Corvette and see a 4 cylinder engine, it doesn't work. :lol:

The thing that gets me is that so many uber-conservatives told me I was just anti-Palin because she was conservative, pro-life, pretty, a myriad of such comments. And that had nothing to do with it. She was completely unprepared for the national stage. She may be pro-life, and a great mother, but I simply couldn't then, nor see evidence now, that she has any finger on the pulse of mainstream America. She was picked to work the fringes, and she continues to cement herself on the fringes. She's now more a celebrity than a politician, IMO.

If your meaning is I'm optimistic he fails, then yes, but in all the policies that I believe are going to hurt us rather than help us. If things don't get better, he'll be what's going away, as well he should.

The economy can no more be laid at the feet of Bush (solely...get it...solely...feet...:lol:) than it can be laid at the feet of Obama. It's a worldwide crisis, and one that will take a global effort to right.
