You think this because.....????????

Just from the soldiers I know, which isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things, they have no confidence in Pres. Obama, some are career guys, some are not.

Patton wouldn't last a week with today's media.

I was thinking the same thing when I first heard about this.

My personal opinion is that he should stay. IMO, he's the right man for the job in Afghanistan. He just needs to stay away from the press. :D

McChrystal is probably the typical battle hardened Four Star General. He didn't rise in the ranks because he didn't have opinions. He didn't rise in the ranks because he was disrespectful. Those stars on his shoulders are much harder to earn than any elected office in the country. The pressure that he endures cannot be compared to even that of the POTUS. Soldiers lives are in his hands twenty four hours a day. Men like him spout off at the mouth all the time, they say things they shouldn't, even if they do believe it. He made a terrible decision by letting all this become an article in Rolling Stone, that is a fact. He made an even more critical mistake by disagreeing/disrespecting Obama. Barry Doesn't handle that well under ANY circumstance.

If it were me, I would understand the Generals frustration and leave it at that. I can also understand why the POTUS would be legit in removing him from command in Afghanistan. I hope he stays in command.

I agree with all you stay.

At times, the best course of action is to consider the "big picture". In this case, the stakes are much higher than if he were a member of the President's Cabinet. MUCH higher. Most won't agree with me, but this is where I feel Obama's true strength lies...in not making rash, knee-jerk decisions. He wants to speak to the General before deciding what to do. I know a lot of bosses in the civilian world who don't afford their employees that much consideration. I respect that.

He should stay, but I fear that he will be forced to resign. I agree with rockmom, he is the right man for the job.

I'd like to see Obama jump on the media for stirring the pot and call the State Department and military to task for bickering in the press but definitely keep McChrystal. I think Obama is pretty thin skinned, but I believe he'll do the right thing and keep him on.

No way. He will be forced to resign.

He should be fired. It isn't about being thin skinned or whether he insulted Mr. Obama. He voiced a public lack of respect for his lawful civilian superiors. If he really felt that way he should have resigned before this came up. I'm not sure that the President will fire him, but I think he should.

Reminds me somewhat of what I have read about when Truman fired MacArthur. This a test of civilian control of the military. If he doesn't resign he should be fired.

I know several that support President Obama, so to say that probably most of them agree with General McChrystal would seem to be a little presumptuous.

To me the big picture is that if McChrystal is fired or his resignation is accepted, our men and women fighting the battles will suffer. There is no way the transition can be made without negative consequences IMO. Setbacks are NOT what we want at this time, and not letting this magazine article roll off the backs of this administration is a setback IMO.

I absolutely agree that this is a setback for our troops, but the fault lies in a commander that failed to show disipline himself or to require disipline from his staff. That is what has hurt his troops. For that he should be fired.
