Decreased hiring of illegals means fewer illegals. If the consequence of reporting an employer for paying illegal wages is to be deported, very few employers will ever be reported. Keeping the reporting of employers separate from immigration enforcement makes perfect sense to me and in my opinion will result in fewer illegals. Score another one for the logical and pragmatic Obama administration.

So with tax payer money the Secretary of Labor has created a hotline number, not for people to tip the government to employers breaking the law which you and TA agree should be done, but to act as an agent for illegals to make sure they get paid “fairly”. :lol:

They are held responsible for hiring illegals. It is already against the law to do so. This law will do nothing to stop that. It will do nothing to stop employers from hiring illegals if they already are. If it increases the pay to illegals why would it not increase the number of illegals?

Paying a fine is no deterrent if a company saves 10x that much in paying lower wages and no benefits. What TA says is reasonable. Make it less lucrative to hire illegals, and the jobs will go to American workers (if they can bring themselves to accept them), and there will be no benefit to illegals. It's simple logic.

Separating the part of the government that tracks illegals from the part of the government enforces labor laws will reduce the incentive for employers to hire illegals. It may be more emotionally satisfying to say "round em up and throw em out", but the program outlined in the clip will work better at reducing illegal hiring AND illegal immigration.

:thumb: Illegal immigration is largely an economics issue. You want to put out the fire, not fan the smoke. Although, in fairness I'm not familiar with this specific policy in question and thus not familiar with its intentions or precedence, but agree with Trinity alum's argument from a broad standpoint.

That would be preferable, however there is no incentive to report if the company is fined and the worker doesn't get additional compensation. Either way I don't see this being effective in stemming illegal immigration. Then again, that's not it's purpose.
