June 21, 201016 yr Famous guitarist for a famous rock band. See if you can guess who this mystery guitarist actually is? HINT: This picture was taken in 1973 ......
June 21, 201016 yr Author Billy Gibbons? We have a winner. That is Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top! Well done CWB!!! I am impressed, ... had I not known who this was beforehand, I would never have guessed!!!
June 21, 201016 yr It was an educated guess. Haha, at first I thought it looked like a skinnier (and slightly rounder-faced) version of Dan Akroyd.
June 21, 201016 yr I knew it was Dusty, and figured it had to be Billy who is now a preacher and when Dusty got married, Billy married them. In 1974 I first heard "Tres Hombres" and loved that group. For a three man crew they have done very well.
June 22, 201016 yr Yeah if it wasn't for Dusty that one would have been hard to figure out. Well harder, was still pretty hard. You crop Dusty from the picture and it would be almost impossible.
June 22, 201016 yr My first time hearing ZZ Top was "Legs", obviously after they'd started using synthesizers. I liked them pretty good just hearing that. Needless to say, hearing their stuff from the '70's was an eye-opener. Like pretty much every band in history, their best stuff is early.
June 22, 201016 yr Author Isn't that a picture from an insert in one of their early albums? It may be, but it was on either Billy Gibbons' or ZZ Tops facebook page. It was strange seeing him without the trademark beard!

One of the best pure 3 piece bands ever in rock and roll.
