June 14, 201016 yr Author Looks likely at this point... Any chance of Texas or Oklahoma following suit?
June 14, 201016 yr Any chance of Texas or Oklahoma following suit? Highly unlikely. Kansas or Utah will fill the A&M spot in the Pac 16...
June 14, 201016 yr I don't blame A&M. Texas is the alpha-male in the state, but I think A&M's recruiting could pick up even more by being the lone team in the state playing in the SEC. It's been the premier conference lately so it couldn't hurt. If the money is around the same, I think it's a better move for them than to be an also ran in the Pac-10. They probably aren't going to be an immediate upper level SEC team, but at least that will make them different in the state. JMO.
June 14, 201016 yr Highly unlikely. Kansas or Utah will fill the A&M spot in the Pac 16... On one hand I would like to see Utah get it because it would be huge for them. On the other hand I like the potential of their current conference. It's like a heavy-weight division for mid-majors.

Not to mention they will save an untold amount of money by not sending their women's track team to Washington and Oregon. For them South Carolina would be the farthest trips they would take and according to mapquest it is 1072 miles to Columbia. It is 2256 miles to Seattle and the University of Washington.
June 17, 201016 yr Texas A&M fans apparently NOT happy at all with the school's decision to remain in the 'watered down Big 12 for short term dollars' instead of joining the SEC. http://tamu.scout.com/2/978071.html
June 17, 201016 yr ^They should be mad IMO. If expansion continues sometime in the near future the Big 12 probably won't be around that much longer. Texas A&M could have got in a very good league and been set for the foreseeable future.

June 17, 201016 yr How is the Big 12 now going to be able to offer both Texas and Texas A&M over $20 million per year? How much was each team getting in the past? Where are they coming up with the extra cash? What do the other schools think of those two school getting much more per year than they do? Plus Texas gets to have thier own TV network now, how is that helping A&M? Then Texas threatening A&M that they would never play them again in any sport if they did not go to the Pac 10 with them? I am sure the A&M faithful are fed up with the better than you attitude, and fed up with being in the shadows and the "little brother" of Texas, and the arrogance of Texas is now too much. It looks like a band-aid on a leak in a dam, a temporary solution.
June 17, 201016 yr Do you not think the option of moving to the SEC will be available down the road? Isn't it possible that it couldn't or wouldn't be? Looks like they are the SEC's first choice but who knows about 4 or 5 years from now, if expansion continues. Say the SEC expands before the Big 12 collapses. Not likely, but it is possible.

I understand what you mean (and didn't mean my earlier question to come off smart), but I don't believe the SEC will ever make a move unless they look west to Texas and Oklahoma. And I believe Texas knows this.
June 19, 201016 yr I had heard some talk that had the big 12 disappeared the SEC would have made a move on ACC schools like GT, Florida State, and Miami. Don't remember where I heard this though...
