May 10, 201016 yr Author Merriman? Pretty big name in the sport. No one curses him and calls him a cheater like they do the others. I understand what you all are saying about the "level" of the baseball guys...but how do we know the great football players haven't been on HGH...they aren't tested for it either. And as someone stated above, baseball put a full blown investigatin that added eyes to it, but why didn't football and basketball do the same. I agree, we are naive to think other sports best players aren't using it and naive to think the guys from the 70's and 80's weren't doing it in baseball too. I just find it ironic that the baseball players are just crucified and the other sports get a pass.

Also, fair or unfair it is assumed that many of the great baseball players of the last 10-20 years were on the juice. How many players were named in the report? How many NFL players have been caught taking juice? Merriman is a nice name, but to hit the extent of Barry Bonds or Clemons it would have to be someone like Manning, Brady or Tomlinson or someone of that caliber and fame IMO.
May 11, 201016 yr Players have been getting caught and suspended in the NFL for years. The policy isn't perfect, but it also isn't new and it appears to work. Baseball hasn't been testing that long so when someone gets busted, it is still pretty new to many. Plus like Jim and others have said, baseball is driven soley by stats on whether you are a 1st ballot, 2nd ballot, 3rd ballot, or never HOFer. In the NFL either you are a HOFer or you are not.
May 11, 201016 yr If you think players benefited from "greenies" the same way they have with HGH and anabolic steroids, then I don't know what to tell you. Cheating is cheating, you can't get outraged because someone is juicing and in the same breath dismiss greenies, doctoring a ball, or corking a bat. Thank you for proving my point.

Sorry, but not all cheating is the same when you look at it from the context of the actual level of enhancement a player gets from each sin. That's like saying murder and jaywalking are the same -- after all, a crime's a crime.

May 11, 201016 yr Thought I heard on SportsCenter in the middle of the night as I drifted in and out of sleep that the AP is revoting to name a new ROY and strip Cushing of the award.
May 11, 201016 yr Thought I heard on SportsCenter in the middle of the night as I drifted in and out of sleep that the AP is revoting to name a new ROY and strip Cushing of the award. They are.
May 11, 201016 yr Apparently he failed the test in September, appealed the results, the appeal was not heard until February so he was allowed to play the season. Knowing that, I would not have a problem revoking the award.
May 11, 201016 yr Per Schefter: Here it is: Brian Cushing tested positive for slightly elevated levels of hCG (a non-steroidal substance produced naturally by the body).
May 11, 201016 yr Per Schefter: My understanding of hGC is it is only produced naturally in pregnant women. I can't find anything that says it is produced in males naturally. You use it with steriods so your body will continue to naturally produce testostrone. It can also be taken by itself to cause the body to produce more testostrone naturally.
