For guitar players

Featured Replies

Seems we have several guitarists on BGP, and I thought it would be cool to see what guitars BGP members have, what their favorite guitar is and how long they have been playing!

I'll start.

I am down to 4 guitars right now as I don't play as much as I used to due to time constraints. Schecter C strat style w/locking floyd rose tremolo & 2Seymour Duncan humbuckers, Alvarez classical, Charvel electric/acoustic and a cheap no name bass made in Korea just for recording. My son has a nice Taylor acoustic that I bang around on sometimes so I guess technically, we have 5 in the house.

My favorite guitar I have ever owned was a Fender American Ultra Strat with 3 different Lace sensor pickups, LSR roller nut. My ultimate guitar would be a Gibson White Les Paul Custom.

Played since I was 6 or 7 years old. I turn 45 next month. Played semi-professionally for several years in various bands, one was signed to small now defunct label in Indianapolis, used to do studio session work, record some at home, etc.

I have this:

(Fender Jaguar Bass with a modified bridge)

this:

(Epiphone EB-0 Bass, mostly just for looks because there aren't many tonal options with a mudbucker pickup)

and this:

(Lanikai LU-21P Pineapple Ukulele)

I run my basses through an Acoustic amp and cabs and for recording use Amplitube Ampeg SVX.

Only one: My old standby Fender Strat (black) with Tex Mex pickups at bridge and mid and standard issue strat pickup at neck. Crate 150 watt tube amp.

I really like that Fender Jag bass! Very sharp.

Thanks, it one of my favorite basses I've owned. I had to go with red because of the matching red headstock. They make them in other colors, but red is the only one with a matching color headstock. Unfortunately, I've had a Rickenbacker bass and an '82 G&L L-1000 bass that I've previously owned and had to get rid of. Surprisingly, that old G&L gave the Rickenbacker a run for it's money.

When I bought the Jag bass I had the decision between that or a Fender Geddy Lee bass. Once I learned that the Jag bass had practically the same neck as the Geddy Lee + active pickups and more tonal controls, I was sold. The thing I did like about the Geddy Lee was that it came with a Leo Quan high-mass bridge. (I can't say the actual name of it on here)

However, I bought a Gotoh 201 bridge and put it on the Jag bass and got a ton more punch and sustain than I did with the stock Fender bridge.

I generally don't do a lot of customizing on my axes. I will often switch to Grover tuners (or Sperzels) if they don't have top notch tuners, sometimes change pickups, etc.

I'm looking to pick up a Les Paul (hopefully) in the next few months. Haven't had one in several years and have had an itch for one lately.

i have a squir strat and a washburn acoustic. A couple of cheapies, but i've played the heck out of em. Been playing since i was 13.

I've only owned inexpensive acoustics. My favorite was an Epiphone 12-string that I got with my high-school graduation money in 1973.

I have always loved the sound of a 12 string.

A buddy of mine had a Squier Strat and replaced the single coils with some hot rails and it sounded really good!

I had a Squier H-S-H back in the late 80's early 90's and I really liked that guitar. Wish I still had it. Here is a pic of it (sepia tone from a music video I did with the band I was with at the time so it is a little hard to see).

MT , what was the name of the band you were in? A PM would be fine if you don't want to say on here. Thanks.

I sent you a PM.

I have a cheap Martin Acoustic now. Used to have a Les Paul Studio Lite...wish I'd have kept it. It was a cool guitar.

I haven't played that many guitars, but as far as looks go, I prefer the Les Paul. They tend to be a bit on the heavy side though, which is why I liked the one I used to have so well. That, and it had three pickups, a 5-way pickup switch, and then another toggle switch that would change the sound a bit, so I could get about 9 different sounds from the pickups.

Les Pauls are heavy, and the 3 pickup version always seemed a bit heavier to boot. But you are right, so many different tonal variations! I LOVED em! The downside was that to hold one on your shoulders for 3-4 hours a night got a little tough at times. I also love Strats, and the H-S-H configuration was always my favorite. With a good coil tap on the bridge humbucker, you could get about any electric guitar sound/tone you wanted! And they were lighter!

I am actually debating dropping some Dimarzio EJ212s in my Schecter. The Eric Johnson signature models have been getting rave reviews and the price isn't too bad at about $65 each thru Musicians Friend.
