I'm interested to see how GC does this year. Copley seems to be doing a very good job, hopefully this is the start of good things to come for the Musketeers.

The behind the scenes stuff is heating up. Camp days have been set. We will do a mini camp in late July and once again the entire team will go to Feltner the week before school starts.

Greenup started practice last night and the team is looking good. We have 20 seniors (most are returning players with a few new faces sprinkled in.) Expectations are high for this group. Copley has done a great job in the offseason and the boys have spent a lot of time in the weight room. GO MUSKETEERS!

Greenup County held their own in the 7 on 7 vs. Ballard Saturday night, Austin Stringfellow and Mike Hampton have great hands and made some awesome catches with String getting an awesome 40 catch beating the Ballard defender to the ball and running another 20 to the end zone. Mason Rister will be a force to be reckoned with as a solid QB when we throw the ball and running the offense. The defense looks pretty solid, Ballard was quicker and taller than we were vs our DB's, but our linebacker's look solid running down hill quickly to the short pass. I really can't wait for the full pads to come on and see GCHS's running game and the complete offensive package and can't wait to see the D starting cracking those pads, Defense wins championships...

The one thing I noticed in the one game I saw them play (Mason County) was a tendency to lose control. Shore that up, eliminate the penalties, and play good old-fashioned football.

Losing control has been an issue at GC even as far back as my playing days. The most notable blow up that I can remember came the year after I graduated. The 1986 season had GC marching for the go ahead touchdown vs Boone County at home when a very talented and respected receiver for GC catches a pass and takes the ball into the redzone and then procedes to get into a "situation" with 2 or 3 Boone County defenders. The flags flew and GC was penalized 15 yards and never recovered. I'm not saying GC would have scored but it definitely stalled the effort. It tainted a very well played game both ways. It is not a secret that most teams try to get into GC players heads and cause them to implode. I hope they have learned to channel their aggression.

Sidelinedoc, you hit the nail on the head and that is one reason why GC has been the king of underachievment. In the pre-season GC is always going to be a great team and all the problems have been fixed. But, when the season is half over GC will once again be an underachiever with the same problems. Players will quit, fans will be calling for the coaches head, GC will lose to Russell, and it will be East vs West all over again.

I hope so. It got pretty ugly at times against Mason Co. last year. The overall affect was to make Mason want to win by as much as possible, not a mind set you want to put your opponents in.

BTW - I hope Mason Rister has a great year. He's friends with my son and a lot of kids at Mason County. He's a good kid. I think a 9-1 year with a loss to Mason would be real good.:thumb:

This is the way it is every year. I don't understand it. But thats just the way it is year after year. They must win almost all the non dist games to come close to a winning season. They must play the Port. ND and Raceland's to try and make it to the .500 season. The dist games are tough for them to win year after year. Rowan, LC and others make it hard on them. They should handle Boyd ok this year. Both Boyd and GC schools are in the same boat when it comes to sports. Sorry this is a reply to the Burnout #24.

I'm not going to dwell on it, but there is a lot of misinformation in that article. But, good luck to Mason and Greenup County this year.

Looks like your up to your same old tricks Doc. Trying to plant a seed into boys and fans heads that we are a troublesome lot here in GC and because you jumped ship and wear your pretty little orange shirts that makes you so refined. I hate it when people forget where they come from.
