Fall Practice Proposal Loses

Would not 100% agree with this but about 99% agree. I hear a certain county powerhouse that is south of me has a batting cage set up in a tobacco barn. Players meet and work on hitting in that batting cage throughout parts of the winter.

In Cincy, there is an indoor baseball field that I believe has leagues in the winter.

Well of course that happens. However, these aren't sanctioned by the school coach. Well, the last example isn't.

For your first example; we know, we know.

As a coach, would you rather have your players come to you and learn or go somewhere else and learn knowing when they come back to you, something may get changed? Also, those places (like the one in Cincy) is preparing a kid for the next level and fine tuning his individual skills. I know for a fact that some of those places aren't teaching a kid how to hit with runner's on or how to sacrifice bunt. It's all individual, which is regressing from the team concept.

Which leads to high school kids having to get Tommy John surgery. People think you don't have to be in shape for Baseball and are sadly mistaken. Just because MOST schools don't have off-season conditioning they think you don't have to be in shape.
You are so right, how many times does this happen.

Baseball/Softball players don't "touch" a ball since, say around late October if they are doing some work on their own, meet to practice that first day Feb. 15th, start throwing and then...."my arm hurts"

Players need, require and must have conditioning during the off-season, at home, inside and the injuries will continue and that is sad.

It truly is sad.

Come one BZ, Shirley you can notice a joke when you see one. We've done this many times. :thumb:

FWIW, I don't see any personal attacks either.

 Who is Shirley? Yes I do notice a joke. Surely I do.. :flame:

I am in total agreement with the injury factor with no Fall instruction. The early part of the baseball season you'll see kids not throwing as hard and hitting is off. It will take a couple of weeks to get back into the groove. And not every area of this state has the luxury of having an indoor practice facility to work in over the Winter. They have to rely on a couple of days that may be warm enough to be able to go outside and toss. And you sure don't want to risk having an injury when it's really cold outside.

And if a kid wants to focus on just one sport during his junior and senior season, why not. If that kid is serious about playing on another level, who am I to say that he can't because we won't allow 10 days in the Fall.

Let's take this a step farther, why not allow baseball coaches to have a team during the Fall season? Maybe during the whole month of August. It's not like baseball is going to threaten basketball and football, right? Oh well. I guess we'll have to rely on Dad's to coach a baseball team during the Fall.

Basketball summer team camps.

and teams can't play baseball in the summer?

AGAIN!!! Not many high school coaches want to spend the entire summer coaching summer baseball. They put a lot of time in from Feb 15th until the end of May for high school baseball. (That's if they don't have off-sason conditioning.) If you gave 10 days in the fall, it would eliminate the need for the high school coaches to try and coach a summer team. You have 30 games in the spring and can easily play another 60 in the summer. That's a lot of baseball, good luck trying to stay married or have a family doing that.

High school basketball coaches don't have to coach AAU because they know that they'll see those kids in summer team camps anyway. You're really making this more difficult than it should be. :irked:

Not many basketball coaches want to spend their summer in the gym but they do. Their conditioning and season runs from late September until March and they pick back up in May and go through the end of July. Don't give me the baseball coaches want to give up time when other coaches do.

As far as AAU, it is not in all parts of the state.

You are still not getting it. We're not talking about conditioning. There's a HUGE difference in conditioning for two hours a day at school and going out of town to tournaments, going to away games, playing every day of the week, etc. Conditioning is usually three days a week, summer baseball's six. We're talking about practicing together as a team. With balls, bases, bats and even on a field. :irked: :madman:

You are not getting it either. Baseball can play in the summer just like basketball. Basketball coaches and players a tremoundous amount of time in the summer working together just like baseball.

The only sport that has a 10 day window is football and no other sport.

Conditioning is not a 3 day a week thing. Most do it Monday-Friday.

Not many basketball or baseball teams go everyday in the summer. Usually only fall sports do. I have no idea how much time baseball/basketball coaches put in.

Your third sentence is way off. Most kids spend the summer playing in really good summer leagues. In a good league, like AABC out of Cincinnati, takes a ton more time than high school baseball. Hence, coaches not wanting to do it and not wanting to put in the time, because it's more than all other sports in the summer. It's a ton.

Let me say this. I know for a fact that at least two other coaches agree with me on this, and that's just on BGP, realize where they are coming from.
