Besides, he has it all backward anyway. Coaches are not always right. Coaches, my friend, Are never wrong.

:D

Any hours or 10 days a player can work on improving him/herself in Baseball or Softball, will help.

How can you allow one sport to have the additional 2 weeks and not the other?

If baseball was allowed something but not softball, there would be lawsuits.

So whats the difference? Football can, baseball can not.

Does Soccer, basketball, track and field, cross country, and all other sports besides football get a 10 day practice during the off season?

Basketball summer team camps.

Have they asked for one?

I think the KHSAA should allow nearly every sport a 10 day period in the off-season with the clear stipulation that the practices are only for the S/A not currently playing a sport that is in season.

I would make an exception for basketball because the season is so long that the only off-season time is basically in the summer.

Apparently personal attacks are not acceptable except in the case of BigZig. Well I at least I made a boring thread a little bit interesting. As for you coaches and wantabe coaches, you are so, so predictable..Until the next thread..out.

Kids should be encouraged to play multiple sports in HS not specialize in one sport. The system should be setup to encourage kids to try a buffet of sports.

Come one BZ, Shirley you can notice a joke when you see one. We've done this many times. :thumb:

FWIW, I don't see any personal attacks either.

Very good point and when Middle School age players, are deciding to forgo one sport and specifically work on just 1, maybe even limited to another it's entirely way too early for specialization.

Teens bodies will change, personalities and work ethics, but once a 1-2 year layoff occurs, almost impossible to get the ability back, unless an exceptional athlete.

And I believe you are seeing that more and more. Players playing another sport their junior/senior season after becoming burned out by playing just one for so long.

Exactly! My point is that most kids have to sacrifice baseball because the way it's set up. Either offer a 10 practice period in the off-season for everyone or no one, IMO. However, I'd prefer no one. I can't imagine only playing one sport in high school. I'd have lost half of my fondest memories.

Summer is becoming a pain for any kid playing multiple sports. Let's say it starts June 1st. Basketball Team Camps and scrimmages is 2-3 weeks. You have a summer baseball league and football is wanting to have some workouts and go to 7 on 7 camps.

All that before July 15th when fall sports season officially begins and subtract out 2 weeks for the dead period.

PACKED FULL for the kids' summer.

You are correct LBC and I'm not knocking any sport, I enjoy watching them all but Basketball is just about 10-11 months a year any more, while Football and conditioning run 6-7, but Baseball can't get outside most times, until mid-late March and than...done in May, same with Softball.

Balance for players, equitable training time-tables and the ability to have a fall time, would help those players not playing fall sports.

YUP! The thing that really bothers me is that baseball suffers the most. It's the only sport that you can absolutely not play in another season. Spring's hard enough to get games in.

Which leads to high school kids having to get Tommy John surgery. People think you don't have to be in shape for Baseball and are sadly mistaken. Just because MOST schools don't have off-season conditioning they think you don't have to be in shape.

Would not 100% agree with this but about 99% agree. I hear a certain county powerhouse that is south of me has a batting cage set up in a tobacco barn. Players meet and work on hitting in that batting cage throughout parts of the winter.

In Cincy, there is an indoor baseball field that I believe has leagues in the winter.
