What a great season and a good run for Mason County...unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. There's only one better way to end a season on Saturday and thats in the night game at Rupp Arena...the Royals were just one short of that.

Coming into the year, many (including myself) didn't think that Coach O'Hearn had enough talent to get back to the Greatest Show in Hoops, but boy did they prove us all wrong! Injuries early in the season allowed Mason to become a more balanced team, especially Rhueben Bluford. I'd like to call it the "Blooming of Bluford" as he was giving PT to show us all what he is capable of. I don't know why the state tournament should be any different??? I hope he is able to continue his basketball career (from what I've been hearing, Berea and Pikeville are possibilites). IMO the guard combo of Jordan Gilbert and Justin Lang was the Royals greatest asset come tourney time (10th Region & Sweet 16). JG will be a fun player to watch next year in both football and basketball, while J.Lang will be missed surprisingly on offense, but particularly on the defensive end. I believe Justin earned the right to be named All-Tournament Team by his play at Rupp. Bradley Lang was an aggressive player on both ends of the floor, but just couldn't seem to get anything going at Rupp. However, he has better things coming his way...good luck to him as he continues his football career. One player that needs to keep his head up is Treg Setty. He had a lot of pressure to be the leader of this year's team, but I am not sure if he fits that role. He is a good player with even greater potential, but needs to find out how to maximize what he has been given to the fullest. He always wears his emotion on his proverbial sleeve, but he needs to learn how to keep them in check. Neal Pawsat, Tyler Black, and Josh Harris are all athletic studs and will be assets for the both the football and basketball programs at Mason County next year. Look for these three players to be on D1 fields sometime in the next several years.

I think there will always be questions about coaching, whether it be strategy or substition patterns, but Coach O'Hearn and staff, especially Carwile, did a phenomenal job this year...they must be doing something right to give the Royals the opportunity to play at Rupp Arena 3 straight years.

Mason County was just beat by a better team this morning...that team being Shelby Valley. Solid, fundamental play from the Wildcats allowed them to advance to tonight to play for the state championship. They already have the All "A" under their belts and I think they will get this one too. Oh yeah, and they have Elisha Justice.

Great post.

Congrats on a very good season, but....... If Christian Co., Scott Co., or Warren Central had been down there in those last teams when it all started, I really believe they would have played SV this morning. I know MC had a very good year, won a very impressive regional final, but I just was not impressed their team. I feel like I did not see the team that beat Clark Co. There were many people in our section and outside in the lobby and even down in the hospitality coaches room that asked, How did they beat them?

You can't control the draw and Mason Co beat the teams they needed to beat to advance. They were a deserving regional winner as GRC with all of that big time talent could not win the game when needed to make it to state.

This is a great post!!!!

Congratulations Royals on a thrilling post season. :thumb:

At this point in time, I find it a true shame that some posters find it necessary to continue to bash this group of young men. Instead you should be congratulating them on what they accomplished. :irked:

Hats off to Coach O'Hearn, his staff, and everyone a part of the Mason County Royals basketball program!!!

You were worthy adversaries and entertaining to watch in the post-season.

Your program has earned its stripes over and again, and your coaches put you in a positon to win.

Great Final Four season!!!!!

Congrats to the Royals on a great season.

Congrats on a very good season, but....... Guard play beat them. Obviously the coaches you spoke to had limited knowledge of GRC other than their ranking. They have no true point guard. Also, how many Mason games have you watched this year? Every major contributor from the 2008 champs is gone and a new group steps right into their shoes and keeps the train rolling. Give credit where credit is due.

As far as the 2010 KHSAA tournament goes, I feel the overall talent level was down and possibly as low as it has been in several years. Ballard, Scott County and SV are all good teams, but none of them are teams that we will still be talking about 15 years from now. There just was not that total WOW factor with this years talent pool. Elijah Justice is the only player from this tourney that will still be mentioned or remembered in the future. He is a great one!!!

Again I say, Congrats on a very good season. And again congrats on winning a tough regional final. I will agree with what your saying K of Ks. There was not a WOW factor there. As far as how many games, these 3, this week. So you should understand why some are asking how did they do it? I will disagree on one thing, we will always remember this SV team because, I think they are the first team to ever win both the Class A tourney and the State tourney.

Sugar Daddy I am not bashing the team, I just felt like some of the other teams up there were better. Even K of Ks states the talent level there was down and possibly as low as he/she has seen in several years. Again, Congrats on winning your region.

Sadly, I have to agree with Kentucky's talent being way down. Following it since the late 70's and this might be the lowest I've seen it. Yet, SV won it and they should be commended. Walkon or not, Justice wins Mr. Basketball.

Congratulations to Shelby Valley on the win. They had the best team in the tournament as well as the best player in the tournament. Every time the Royals looked like they would get back in it, Valley had an answer.

And of course, congratulations to the Royals on just a wonderful season. Excepting the players and coaches, just about everyone else's expectations were exceeded by far. Justin, Brad, Ryne and Rheuben, here's wishing you continued success as you move on.:thumb:

Here's an observation.

When some marquee players transferred to Scott County a couple of years ago, many were of the opinion that the Cards would be guaranteed a state title or two. Yesterday, Mason County and Scott County were presented pretty much the exact same trophy.

You never know.

Curious. Who returns for Mason Co?
