Shumate is in position to really make a name for himself if he stays at Beechwood. They have some excellent young talent and good size coming. IMO Beechwood could be a legitimate contender to win region in the next couple of years. If he wins the region at Beechwood, he will have plenty of programs seeking him out. If he leaves Beechwood he is walking away from a unique, career making opportunity.

Beechwood has a nice team and Rick is a great coach, but they will not win the Region in the next few years IMHO. Too many other good teams teams with great players for the Tigers to overcome. The 35th district alone with Holmes and CovCath will be formidable foes. The Tigers aren't known for advancing to the Region. 2009 was the exception. I predict Rick will stay a few more years, and then maybe try to take his game to CCH if and when Coach Listerman departs.

I am not saying they WILL win it but there is no doubt they have the talent to contend. Nussbaum started at PG as a freshman. Sophomore Cruse is a very nice 6'5" swing man. Freshman Maus 6'4" with a big body and growing started at center and has a very nice shooting touch. Sophomore Vocke is very athletic, quick and solid at guard. Not to mention the junior Mr. Fangman. There are a couple other talented, solid players in the freshman and sophomore classes, including 6'4" freshman McKenzie whose brother is going to Xavier next year on a full ride. Obviously it is a tough district and there are other programs in the region with some very good young talent too. But there really is enough talent coming for Beechwood to be a contender and my point is ... if Shumate puts it all together and gets Beechwood to a region championship or wins it, he will be very sought after if he wants to move to a bigger school. And it isn't nearly as big an if as you may believe.

I think its a stretch to say they will win a region, but I wouldn't be shocked if the Tigers can find their way back to the Region with this group of kids. I think Shumate has proved that he is a good coach with what he has accomplished in Ft. Mitchell. I am not sure that he would jump from there unless it is the right opportunity.

This is funny. From what I know of Shumate he has (run-ins) with everybody. I think he will stay at beechwood, and I think Voice of reason accually knows what he is talking about. He will compete for a region with the talent he has coming. It will not be long before Beechwood is not considered just a DIII school but a school who is a consistant Top 10 performer in the region every year!

You can forget the CCH ideas unless the Park Hils mafia digs deep into the coffers for some jack!

I understand Coach Shumate had a "run in" with one of the powers that be at Beechwood a while back and it has him taking the pulse of at least one other coaching position. Is this overblown or is their some truth to Coach Shumate looking at the menu?

Are you sure? Did Coach Shumate deny looking at any other basketball jobs or did that tidbit conveniently not come up?

I have heard through the grapevine that Shumate is unhappy for reasons not mentioned here and that he is looking to get out of Beechwood.
