EB, definitely agree about Anderson having a legit shot a state title at some point. I made that exact comment before I left the gym tonight.

 

Wow, next year's 8th region is definitely shaping up to be strong. Anderson and Walton would have to be 1-2 in the summer written pubs. SK returns the POY but has some big shoes to fill with the loss of three seniors. There are some very strong middle school kids on the horizon to help reload the Neers.

 

Obviously Anderson has some very talented players but I have always liked the fact that their assistant coaches are coaching the middle school kids, even during state AAU tournaments! I took a team to state two years ago that was drilled by the Anderson bunch. Employing the same system from a young age can only be a good thing for the entire program. Very impressed the way they are doing things.

 

Congrats SK on a good season, especially to the senior class of Brown, Pace and Ponzer.

1986 - Oldham County (state champs; beat four top 10 teams in the Sweet 16 run)

 

1988 - Oldham County (runner-ups to Southern)

That's quite a statement! I think the 8th as a whole is returning to levels not seen in quite a while.

 

My hats off to Simon Kenton. They are a very solid team. Tonight was what high school athletics is all about. Two teams giving every ounce of effort they had. I know the kids from Simon are hurting right now, but what a run they have had. As a fan of the game, I have enjoyed the way they have competed every time I've seen them.

 

It will be fun to see one of the youngest teams in the state get to take the floor at Diddle. At this point, would anything surprise with this bunch?

Let's stir things up a bit now that everyone has said the praises and congrats including me. Any comments about the last second 3 pt shot by Anderson with "1" second on clock and SK JV's on the floor with all players standing on floor to let last several seconds tick off and up by 10?

 

If I remember correctly last year Stowers played the JV's almost the whole 4th QTR. :idunno:

Good luck to Anderson Co. and Coach Kays as they carry the 2010 banner for the 8th region down to WKU. The bigger question has nothing to with a last second shot, but is instead must be this, "Is this the beginning of a Lady Bearcats parade to Diddle for the next few years?"

 

No doubt the AC folks will be (and have the right to be) crowing about pulling off this championship coup earlier than they had realistically hoped. Curiosity causes one to wonder if there be a rising up of contenders who will accept the challenge laid down by the AC youngsters, or will it simply become an issue of everyone else competing for second place? Only with the investment of some serious sweat equity will contenders come to the forefront to make next year' 8th region campaign anything more than a one horse race.

Stowers was playing to win until the final few seconds. There is no way he conceded the game till the end. As for the shot, I'd say the kid didn't know not to take it. It's been a while since Anderson has been in that spot.

I sure hope you are right, Colonel Mike, as it would be a doggone shame to follow up this exciting and unpredictable season with a boring, cut-and-dried season in 2010-2011. This year has certainly been a great ride.
