Not a surprise. NC has been the better team IMO.

Final

Does anyone have any details on the game in general? Individual scoring?

Newport Central Catholic 55

Highlands 47

Highlands 11 10 10 16 47

Newport Central Catholic 13 13 8 21 55

36th District at Newport

Highlands (19-9) -- Abner 2, Allen 20, Conner 6, Towles 11, Cutter 8.

Newport Central Catholic (22-2) -- Thiem 4, Bartels 11, Sandfoss 9, Fryer 15, Muench 2, Tabor 14.

NCC did not play well for much of the game and then they came out firing in the 4th quarter and built a pretty good lead. But Allen kept her team in it by making some big shots.

NCC continues to have a phenomenal year...

On a side note what a great run that the HHS seniors have had, sad that it has to come to an end here in districts.

I agree.

Brittany Fryer just gets better and better every game she does so much for this team and probably does not get the credit she deserves.

Congratulations to NCC. I look forward to seeing them play. Mother Nature has kept the Lady Raiders and NCC from facing each other, so far this year. Maybe a Regional Final matchup?

A sad end to the Katie Allen, Bekaw Towles era at Highlands. If you would have told me 4 years ago that these seniors would never win a region, I would have never believed it. Congrats NCC

I absolutely agree...and just a couple of district titles also...right?

The depth and talent was there to do special things over those years...great season records, but seemed to be a totally different team in the post season. I hope those two continue their careers somewhere...solid young ladies!

Hmmmm! Interesting. Taking nothing away from the talent of the players, so where does that leave it?

Congrats to NCC on their win. With the young talent HHS has, hopefully they can keep it there and build the program back into a force it once was.

Could not agree more with this statement Malachi. I think that Highlands could have used a few of the girls that did not play this year (Hempfling and Theisen) to add some much needed depth to the roster. Great careers for Allen, Towles and Cutter, they will be missed.

There did seem to be quite a bit of hype surronding this group that never really seemed to materialize. Will Allen have an opportunity to play in college somewhere? She might be a good fit at Thomas More.
