Camels actually dominated the entire third quarter until about the 2 minute mark. Becca kidney had a 3 point play that sparked a 15-2 run in the final two minutes. Brossart went from down five to being up 8 going into the 4th. Talent level also plays a role into the programs. Until Campbell wakes up and gets two middle school teams at every middle school grade level they will struggle on both the girls and boys side. Think about how much influence the sixth grade coach has in determining who tries out for high school basketball.

 

I disagree with this especially how CCMS has run their middle school programs. From what I remember they would divide the teams evenly and to me this is not improving a child because if the teams are divided evenly the majority of the time the weaker kids did not play.

 

I know Coach Cravens has 2 former players at the middle school level and they have done a great job with their teams. Also, any coach can only do so much. It also comes from their youth league where I do not see a lot of coaching. You cannot put some of the blame for a school not having 2 middle school teams at each level.

 

For some who want to blame Coach Cravens not having the right players in at the right time. I am wondering exactly who you would want in. A couple of the girls last night were struggling offensively. If just a couple of shots went in this thread would be completely different. I guess people just want to take the easy way out and blame the coaches instead of looking at the players who did not succeed last night. I know many of times Peters was wide open and no one ever got the ball to her but when she had 2 people on her they would pass her the ball. I guess some must blame Coach Cravens on this as well.

Brossart, Kenton County Schools, Boone County Schools, NCC, as well as the other private schools have multiple feeder systems. The only way Campbell can counteract this is if they create multiple feeder systems through their one middle school. The catholics have several middle schools. Scott has Summit View and Woodland. Simon has Twenhoffel and Summit. There are more middle schools in the boone county system then I can count. So those schools have a potential of 18 to 20 freshman trying out who were starters in middle school. Campbell only can have five potential 8th grade starters trying out for the freshman team. IF they had two 8th grade teams, then that would be ten starters trying our for one team, thus creating depth and an opportunity to be more successful. That is not Craven's fault by any means, but the middle school program directly effects the varsity program. Campbell is an oddity because they are a 5A (I think) school that has only one middle school.

Congratulations to Brossart on their win. Kudos to Peters of Campbell County on a great year. I was told last week when Ryle played Campbell County that there were no Colleges looking at Peters. I find this hard to believe. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Unlike the Brossart Staff, he did nothing to make adjustments. The girls strugglng on offense did struggle, but the ones that went in struggle just as much or even more. They were beat in transition all night long. Just look at the records of 5 and 17 in twelve years against Brossart, something needs to change here. There are girls that should be going to Campbell County at other Schools, why? Because the is no tradtion here at Campbell County. If you performed at 22% in twelve years, would you still have a job? Maybe someone should really look at all of this. It is just a shame that we keep with the same things that are not sucessful, it is time to move in another direction.

I am wondering if you thought the same way of Coach Cravens when he won the districts last year and when he won the region. How do you know what he said and did not say in the locker room at halftime? Maybe the kids did not execute what he drew up at halftime. I am not blaming the kids but it seems to me all you want to do is blame Cravens for everything wrong with this program. For all of the years I have seen Campbell County play (boys and girls) it seems like when they play Brossart they cannot get over the hump (not meant to be a joke). They see Brossart and they freeze up. They just cannot seem them as another opponent. This is what I have seen and I have seen plenty of games to see this.

Give Brossart credit for the win but it has seemed to be a habit that Brossart finds ways to beat Campbell County..........................

They had no fire in their eyes, Brossart came out jumping and all fired up. I believe it is his job to motivate them, and nothing look like it did. Believe me, I want more for our teams than anyone, but come on, this is not getting done. Last year, the girls went out and won that game, with their desire, how long ago was it that he won the region? Maybe the job has passed him by now, the girls deserve more than going through the motions. He is a good person, but his style of coaching is not working.

One thing I learned from when my daughter played, is that parents tend to think their child is going to play college ball and they know everything about coaching. I did not always agree with my daughter's coach, but she was told to respect him and do what he said.

Maybe the reason Brossart wins is that they may have more talent and the girls listen to their coach and not their parents.

I am just a fan, not a parent. I agree with you comment about parents thinking to much about playing at the next level. But as a head coach, one needs to get his team up for a big game and it did not look like it happened last night. The Brossart parents would not put up with the same results year after year and why should Campbell County?

Did he do these things you mentioned, but the players did not respond? A little movitation is always needed from a coach, but does a coach really need to rah-rah his players at this time of the year?

I agree with "family"...the girls should be motivated themselves at this time of year. This is the payoff for their work. If they are not excited about the opportunity, most times there's not much a coach can say to drastically change that (especially with girls).

If a coach can not motivate them for a big game, then he has no reason to be coaching. With girls, you need to push the right buttons, and I guess, he has not figured that out yet. What work, I heard that a two weeks ago, all they did was dribble the ball in practice on a Sunday.
