If a coach can not motivate them for a big game, then he has no reason to be coaching. With girls, you need to push the right buttons, and I guess, he has not figured that out yet. What work, I heard that a two weeks ago, all they did was dribble the ball in practice on a Sunday.

 

I DISAGREE with everything you said here. I as a former female athlete I NEVER needed to have the "right buttons" pushed to get ready for a game.

 

I am really sure all they did was dribble the ball Sunday. We are in the last week of the season, there was plenty of practice going on up to the game. For those who said he did not motivate them at halftime you are sorely mistaken. I know exactly what was said at halftime and there was quite a lot strategy talk and motivation in the locker room. I find it very sad there are those out there who have to lie about things that did not happen.

 

Only a couple on here have said Brossart played a very good game. They played an extremely good game and should get credit for that.

I really did not see any obvious major coaching mistakes by CCHS. Brossart just executed a pretty good game plan and out-played Campbell. I would have tried to get Peters more touches in the second half, but Ridder did a nice job of fronting her and made several key steals against a very good player.

 

If Brossart stays out of foul trouble, and that is a big if, based on this season, I like thie chances of beating Scott.

 

Kidney & Uthe will also have to play a little better than they did vs. Campbell.

 

How about taking a timeout with a freshman shooting the bonus and with the game on the line? How about calling a timeout down the stretch to organize your troops when the game was slipping away? How about taking away the inbounds pass from the girl who scored 31 and making somebody else beat you? No mistakes?

Camels actually dominated the entire third quarter until about the 2 minute mark. Becca kidney had a 3 point play that sparked a 15-2 run in the final two minutes. Brossart went from down five to being up 8 going into the 4th. Talent level also plays a role into the programs. Until Campbell wakes up and gets two middle school teams at every middle school grade level they will struggle on both the girls and boys side. Think about how much influence the sixth grade coach has in determining who tries out for high school basketball.

 

Actually this is the first year that Campbell County has not had two squads for each of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade - boys and girls -

Some of you Campbell people obsess too much about beating Brossart as a sign of success or failure to a good season. Both games this year were hard fought battles that could have gone either way depending upon a few mistakes or missed shots at key times. This rivalry is great for the game and the community, but many overlook Coach Cravens's success since he has been at Campbell. 200 wins over 13 years which works out to roughly 15 wins a season, a regional championship, several district championships, and several regional appearences. Many schools and communities would be very proud and pleased with results from a coach with this type of record. This year's team performed well at times, beating Mason Co., Scott, and Pendleton Co. (all going to the 10th regional championship), and St. Patricks that some considered a potential 10th region contender. Despite having some starters back this year, this team was young and most lacked any varsity experience. This situation will lead to highs and lows as the year progresses and this situation is often really magnified when young players feel the pressures of post season and against their arch rival to boot. The Lady Camels played hard in this game and were very motivated to win, but take nothing away from a senior led Brossart team that hit key shots at key times to win. Coaches don't miss shots, make bad passes, or decisions on the floor, players do, especially young players in pressure situations. The girls did their best and will learn from this experience and come back stronger for it. Pinning a good or bad program by a coach on a winning or losing record against one team is not right. Not many coaches have winning records against teams like Boone Co., Notre Dame, Highlands, NCC and the like , but thoses coaches aren't being critisized for it.

I am not a big fan of knocking coaches. The kids have to execute on the court. Craven did not miss any shots or have any turnovers.

 

The better team won.

We can sit here all night and complain about every aspect of the game. It sounds like the me that the Lady Stangs played well and that the Lady Camels while they played well for the most part, had some issues executing parts of the plan. I think MEMYSELFANDI is a strong supporter of the Camels and UKFANFOREVER has seen all of Cravens that he can stand. My thought here is one for those that are critical of the Camels? How do you fix the issue? It seems like it is more to the problem than girls basketball. How do you end up being the largest school in the region and not send either boys or girls team to the regional tourney.

Twelve years 5 and 17 against Brossart(22%). Overall the last twelve years 180 and 147 (55%). Did they not look flat at the start of the second half? They had no fire in their eyes, Brossart came out jumping and all fired up. I believe it is his job to motivate them, and nothing look like it did. Believe me, I want more for our teams than anyone, but come on, this is not getting done. Last year, the girls went out and won that game, with their desire, how long ago was it that he won the region? Maybe the job has passed him by now, the girls deserve more than going through the motions. He is a good person, but his style of coaching is not working.

 

I dont have a dog in this fight, but wasnt Cravens 10th region coach of the year last year. That is voted on by the other coaches in the 10th region. I am not sure, but dont think he forgot how to coach over the summer last year???
