Coldplay

I haven't cared much for their newer stuff but 'Parachutes' and 'A Rush of Blood to the Head' were fantastic albums. I can completely understand not liking their style of music but to say they are terrible just seems ignorant to me. Contrary to popular belief it is actually possible to hate a band while still recognizing that they're good at what they do.
Can they play instruments? Yes. Can they write and play quality music? NO, not IMO, but then generally speaking taste in music is subjective.

You know how you feel about Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and REO? Kind of how many of us feel about Coldplay. I can't, for the life of me, understand what you or anyone can like about them. Their music is enough to make you want to smiley-violent072.gif

I like them all except REO. Coldplay, however, did seem to be heavily influenced by U2.

Should have read the whole thread.

This from the guy that thinks REO is quality music?

I dislike Coldplay because they steal other people's music and make millions of dollars off of it.

"Joe Satriani's copyright infringement lawsuit against Coldplay has been settled, Satriani's rep tells Billboard. Last December, Satriani sued the British soft rockers, claiming that "Viva La Vida" ripped off his song "If I Could Fly." But the legal dispute was resolved Tuesday with an undisclosed settlement between the two parties."

At least I know when I hear quality music.... :walk:

For the record, I'm an early REO music fan.

Wow, what a horrid, wimpy song by Coldplay. :ohbrother:

Coldplay is great, if your a moony high school girl or their solace-seeking parents as music critic Jon Pareles so eloquently put it. :D:cool:

My personal definition of wimpy:

:D

^ Actually, if you look in Webster's under "wimpy," first you'll see the guy from the Popeye cartoons. Then you'll see Richard Marx.

I saw it, I just see very little variance in their level of 'wimpyness' no matter the time frame.:p

 Nice! Truth is they were once a decent band, before they got into the sappy love songs.

Coldplay, on the other hand, just rips off music and unsuccessfully tries to be relevant.:D

I had heard of Coldplay but never listened to any of their music until the last several weeks. The first song of theirs I listened to was "Clocks." I had heard the song without knowing who sang it or the name of it, but I knew I liked the music. Accidentally discovered it was Coldplay so I purchased the song on iTunes. Listened to some of their other stuff & ended up buying six other songs that I've listened to pretty regularly for the last couple of weeks. "The Scientist" I really, really like. "Paradise" is another. The sing with the word "Viva" in the title I kind of like. "Us Against The World" I think is another. "Till Kingdom Come" is really good & "Lost" is alright. The lead singer's vocals are okay, but it's more the music in these songs that appeals to me.

Since the mid to late 90's, I've had very little interest in music (very little actually means borderline zero interest). While some of Coldplay's stuff was not appealing at all, I did find these handful of songs that I like.
