February 23, 201016 yr Smoke and Mirrors, the problems that exist between the two parties will still be present.
February 24, 201016 yr The bulk of the details of the agreement: http://www.kentucky.com/813/story/1146814.html 1. Eighth-grader """play up""" rule: If a Fayette County area student plays a high school varsity sport as an eighth-grader then transfers from a Fayette County public school to Lexington Catholic, or vice versa, as a freshman, he or she will be ineligible in all sports (practice or games) at all levels for one full year. 2. Fayette County high school transfers: Any high school student who transfers from a Fayette County public school to Lexington Catholic, or vice versa, after the first day of enrollment their freshman year, or subsequent years, will be ineligible for all sports (practice and games) for one full year. (Possible exceptions: extenuating personal, family or financial circumstances may be submitted to the Athletics Oversight Committee for review and decision.) 3. Eighth-grade """transfer""" rule: Any entering freshman who has transferred after the eighth-grade from a Fayette County public middle school to Lexington Catholic, or from a Fayette County Catholic elementary school to a Fayette County public high school, will not be eligible to play any sport at the varsity level during their freshman year. (Rule No. 1 will affect students who """played up.""") 4. Fayette County High School Athletics Oversight Panel: A five-person panel will have a chairperson selected by Silberman and Angelucci. Fayette County's public schools and Lexington Catholic will each have two representatives, including a principal and athletics director. It will review and decide on transfer cases. 5. Guardian Letter of Acknowledgement: A legal guardian of all entering eighth-grade students and high school students who plan to participate in athletics at the high school level will be required to sign a letter acknowledging they are aware of the guidelines affecting their child's eligibility. Some of the same proposals in the public private debate two years ago when the public schools voted to split. The KEA Voted it down. If they have any say it wont pass. The public/Private split is growing in Jeff. Co. again.
February 24, 201016 yr Author Some of the same proposals in the public private debate two years ago when the public schools voted to split. The KEA Voted it down. If they have any say it wont pass. The public/Private split is growing in Jeff. Co. again. There is nothing to really 'pass' except by the policy making function of the individual school or school system. These are self imposed policies not KHSAA wide rules. But you are correct. The play-up-transfer (#1) is basically the same that was proposed a couple of years ago withing KHSAA. I know is passed many gates but eventually died. I am not sure why or what level it failed. Lexington Catholic did voluntarily apply this rule/policy for a few years to try to be responsive to the perceived issues. What is happening in Jefferson? It seemed that the issue was not front burner there in recent years.
February 24, 201016 yr Trinity and St. X totally dominating Football and really stepping up in Basketball. No big deal except for the number of Public school 8th graders attending St. X and Trinity. Seems to be a lot of financial aid available lately.
February 25, 201016 yr With Fayette Co's rules and policies they have dug theirselves a hole, which has really helped LexCath. Not letting teams practice on days when there is no school really hurts teams. I also heard they are very strict about open gyms and really not wanting teams in the gym before Oct. 15th. I maybe wrong about that. Their middle school athletics is bad too. I don't believe they can start playing bball games until after Christmas and are not allowed to play anyone outside of Fayette Co. I really don't understand their policies when it comes to sports.
February 25, 201016 yr None of these rules can be enforced without the KHSAA and KEA's approval. The first time a kid gets ruled ineligible their will be a lawsuit and the kid will win.

February 25, 201016 yr Verifiable proof or just accusatory frustration? You know that it is just more accusatory frustration !:ohbrother:
February 26, 201016 yr No frustration from me. I could care less where kids go. Im just telling the public vs private in Louisville is begining to catch fire again. JCPS Athletic office is upset about losing kids that dont go to Catholic schools and then end up at Trinity or St. X. Names: James Quick Trinity (Newburg Middle), Lamont McMurray St. X (Stuart Middle). As far as Financial aid and how it is done. The proof is Lex. Catholic going on probation and being fined two years ago and Louisivlle Holy Cross about 5 years ago for improperly giving finacial aid. Its done and continues. I guess others know the right way to do it.

Are they upset about the Catholic grade school kids that go to public high schools?
February 26, 201016 yr Those are 2 kids. Out of ALL the kids that go from public middle schools to private high schools, just how many are people upset about? Are they upset about the Catholic grade school kids that go to public high schools? Thats just two off hand. Thomas Sewell leading candidate for Mr. Basketball Kammerer middle. Seeing a pattern here. Of course JCPS is upset. These are top athletes that were going to public schools and and have no ties to Catholic education. No JCPS doesn't care about the Catholic/private kids coming to public schools. For one thats why Male, Manual, and Butler in my opinion was developed to attract the academically gifted private kids. Also you can argue that they can come to the public school for free and dont have to pay huge tuition fees. The perception in the eyes of public school supporters is that those athletes are attending those schools at no cost because they are great athletes. Proof or no proof that is the perception that fuels the fire. And when one of the private schools gets in trouble with the KHSAA the publics say see we told you so.

Funny thing about all this. A family can make all kinds of sacrifices to send their kid to a private school. And most do. People don't bother to look for the facts. They make an assumption that lines up with their version of the facts, and just live on the outrage. I would think that the private schools, at least at this point, better have their P&Q's in order, and be dotting all the i's and crossing all the t's. In this day and age, people are bound to be making all kinds of accusations, and you never know when you'll be investigated. But, as is almost always the case, people will take the exception and assume it's the rule. And, no one cries foul if a kid comes to Trinity or X for academic reasons, or for the opportunity to play lacrosse or something like that. They don't get upset at all. I think it's interesting that it's OK for public school kids to go to private school kids as long as they don't play a "big" sport. Then, there's got to be something shady going on, or it couldn't be possible. Does anyone else get tired of all this?

It would be interesting to know where Foster and Dieudonne went to middle school as well. Trinity is really attracting a lot of basketball talent right now as well as football. That is fine if thats where kids want to go. I don't have a problem with it. They IMO are there for the sports teams. I'm sure theres kids at Ballard and J'town because of their bball teams too.
