August 27, 201610 yr I believe Rhinegeist gets a little too hyped in this area to be honest. It's natural though with them being local. They do make good beer but there is nothing I've had so far -- short of an experimental -- I'm going out of my way to get. They are very much a marketing machine in Cincy. They did a great job with their Barrel Aged Ink and even better with their Sherry Aged Ink. If they do that again and you get a chance to get a bomber, absolutely do it. I got friends that aren't as big of fans as me cause they say they only focus on Pale Ales, IPAs, and Double IPAs. But for me, those are my favorite styles. Really enjoyed the Barrel Aged and Sherry Aged Ink. Fiance loves their cider. But I could definitely see a conesuir appreciating other breweries more. I just enjoy their beer, atmosphere, culture, and it will always be a special place for me (proposed there and my wedding reception is there too).
August 27, 201610 yr I agree. IMO Taft's blows them away. Taft's makes some good beer. The brewery has such a cool feel to being in that old church. Get yourself a steak sandwich too. Delicious.
August 27, 201610 yr I was curious. I've had 19 total beers from Rhinegeist. Using a scale of 2/10's variance being "equal" here is how I rated them versus the global community: 12 - I liked less 4 - about the same 3 - more My average rating for their beers is a 3.35 and my average difference from the global community is -0.37. Did you just use Sabermetrics on brews? lol
August 27, 201610 yr Anyone randomly been to Buckeye Lake Brewery, a lil North of Lancaster, OH? Heading to Lancaster for a wedding tomorrow. They actually have a brewery in Lancaster, Rock Mill Brewery, but the whole thing is closed for a special event apparently.
August 27, 201610 yr Rhinegeist is the fastest growing brewery in the country 3 years running so they have to be doing something right. That being said, if you aren't a major pale ale or IPA fan, they probably aren't for you. I love those styles so for me they hit it out of the park almost every time. Three Floyds is still the best brewery around though. Never had a less than stellar offering. Heading down to 8ball tomorrow afternoon to see what they got. Hoping to try a few interesting offerings.
August 27, 201610 yr Bomber question. So typically I open up a bomber with the intention of finishing it off. There are rare occasions where I just want a taste though. If I put a stopper in, how long, if at all, do I have before I have to kill it or risk it going bad?

I have a growler with a twist lid and I pretty much have to finish it or it will be flat. Personally I think the growler is a piece of crap but if it's a good beer I'd think I'd wait.

August 28, 201610 yr Had a few new beers tonight. Went to the newest Cincinnati brewery, Woodburn. Solid pale ale, IPA and an incredible Cherry stout. Traveled down to Sawyer Point for Brew Ha Ha and had a quite a few beers you can't get on the south side of the river.
August 28, 201610 yr I agree, MadTree kills them in the dark beer category. My favorite beers come from Rhinegeist, but even I will admit that Madtree has more depth, top to bottom, on the roster.
August 28, 201610 yr We went to Buckeye Lake Brewery yesterday. Loved their Double IPA, IPA, and enjoyed their Oatmeal Stout as well. One of the best priced flights I've ever seen. 8 pours for $9.
