So, you got no tax breaks? My mom did, the single mother I work with does. Did you not receive any child support? I don't know your situation so that's why I ask. My mom got very, very little back in those days.

 

Your kids were raised like my two sisters and I were, single parent sending her kids to a Catholic school.

 

 

We had joint custody, and neither of us payed child support. He claimed one kid, I claimed the other. I'm not sure what kind of tax breaks you're speaking of, but by working 2 jobs, I definitely didn't qualify for EIC.

For one I think if you are the head of your household of three and provide more than half your kids support, you file your return as head of household and get a larger standard deduction than if you were just "single".

I've been reading on this for a while. I have not been able to dig really deep into the actual nuts and bolts, but, on the surface, it is the best system I've seen.

Finally, I found the thread I was looking for, lol.

 

Now, without all the bickering, what could possibly be done to jumpstart the economy? Mr. Network started this thread stating that he doesn't see an end to this mess 3-5 years down the road, what can we do to change this? We help bail out the banks, and they are expected to start giving out more loans, and from what I understand they are not doing it, so why did we help bail them out in the first place?

 

In this thread people have said that in the past tax cuts has helped the economy, but will it help today? Or will people now keep that extra money as they are concerned about spending it if the situation we are in continues? I am sure Bush thought that his stimulus would work, but most people only paid off bills, or but that money in the bank, which did little or nothing for the economy.

 

What needs to be done to insure people that they can go out and spend money? And what can the government do? As well as what can they do to convince people it's safer to spend now?

 

I have been busy the past week so I am not exactly sure of the details, but I heard on the news that the housing market was down again last month, or hit a new low, something along those lines. Again, what is going to get us out of this mess? And doesn't the world wide economic upswing start here in the US?

I understand your feeling on executive bonuses within failing companies. I just would never allow myself to believe that this country should embark on a policy that begins with the idea wealth should be taken from someone who has accumulated it and given to someone else. Of course, we already have policies that match those ideals.

If you worked for a company that the top exec's were getting millions in bonuses, and they were tightening up to save money in the company, by cutting hours, benefits, or even cutting jobs. If you were losing one or all three, would you still be okay with the top execs making that extra money when you and your family are sacrificing? That is what I am trying to say, I would like to see just one of them come out and say he doesn't deserve the millions in bonuses, or say he will not take it for this year.

I totally agree that a bonus should be based on sucess, and non existant without it.:thumb:
