For me it's the hypocrisy that gets me with some of these people. Take Rupert or Candice, for example. Both of them lied & deceived & blindsided (or at least attempted to do so) on numerous occasions. Then they both get on their little soapbox & belittle Russell for doing the same.

 

I see it like this: those with no ax to grind (voting Americans) have twice given the nod to Russell as being the best player. Conversely, those with an ax to grind (previous 2 juries) have twice voted to award a non-deserving player as the sole Survivor. Face reality: the only reason Sandra won was because Russell chose to vote off Courtney instead of Sandra several weeks ago. The two of them were at Russell's total mercy, and Courtney happened to be the one that got the short end of the stick.

 

What makes this even worse is that this was essentially a two-contestant race between Parvati & Sandra, and Sandra still won!?!

 

 

Completely agree. Another telling thing about all of this is the fact that Sandra admitted that her strategy from day one was to get rid of Russell and she never got rid of him. So her strategy is awful, she never won a challenge and at the end she needed Russell to make the Final 3. Then all of the members of the jury vote for Sandra instead of Parvati? Seriously? After Sandra admitted to the jury her strategy never worked and she never won a challenge? I can handle Russell losing if Parvati wins because Russell has an abravise personality. I get that. I think the jury was too sensitive but I get that but not awarding Parvati after all she did strategically, physically and socially is where the true politics of the game show up and it's a shame. Sandra had no business winning.

I always thought Colby made the dumbest move ever. He essentially gave Tina the million dollars and I never understood why he put himself through all of that if he didn't want the money. I remember him going through a gamut of emotions that season only to take yet another coattail riding person to the vote when he should have taken the other person. I actually quit watching Survivor for a little while after that and now I am going to quit watching again.

I personally think that Russell should have won. If you look at the dumbest moves of all time, Russell caused two of them (the JT and Tyson one). That should tell everyone something about how good of a player Russell is. He made two of the better players of all time look like complete fools. The social aspect is a part of the game and Russell did not take that into consideration, but it is only one part of the game. When the jury votes, they should consider everything just not that one aspect. They should look at the all around game of the player not just focus on the aspect of being burnt by a particular player.

Dont forget that all the other survivors had no clue about Russells play going into this season since it was being filmed as the last one aired. So nobody truely knew what kind of snake he was until further in the game. Russell is a GREAT strategic player (the best IMO). However, as many stated before me, he has not figured out how to be tactful. Going around calling people stupid to their faces, telling them they will go home if they cross him will not get him votes.

 

How many times have we heard him say "with me or against me" and "if you cross Russell, you will get sent home"? Well, people are knocking Sandra for her failed attempts at removing Russell. But what about Sandra surviving even when Russell knew she was not "with him". She survived and therefore deserved consideration!

Right. If I was on the jury I would be man enough to tell Russell I am voting for him because he played me. I hate losing by I can respect you if you are better than me and I would have no problem telling you that.

 

Russell is great at getting to the finals but he can't, and if he gets another chance he never will, win. First, if he ever gets to play again people will know him for what he is and he will be gone early. Even though this was his second go round his first season had not aired when this group left for Samoa so the other players didn't know what a scuzzy person Russell is. I'm sorry but you can't lie as easily and convincingly as Russell did nor be as big a bully as Russell was unless you get lots of practice in real life.

 

 

IMVHO the greatest thing about Survivor is that the decision of wether you get $1,000,000.00 rests solely on people that you had a hand in denying $1,000,000.00 to. Say what you will about being the "bigger" person and overlooking a skeezy players lies but this isn't like a basketball game where you go all out for an hour, talk trash to your opponent and then hug like best friends after. There people are completely isolated with each other for over a month. They are sleep deprived, they are dehydrated, they are undernourished. Even the ones on the jury remain cut off from the "real world" after they have been voted off. I don't see how when all of that is taken into account anyone can honestly expect those people to overlook one players boorish behavior throughout the show. I have to say as much as I enjoyed watching what Russell did throughout the season, I enjoyed it much more when during the final tribal council you could see by Russell's reaction that he knew he wasn't going to win.

Russell has game to make the final 3 no doubt; but he has no clue on how to finish. He needs to check his ego at the door when making his plea to the jury. Certainly a little luck was needed and IMO if he states that he did whatever it takes to win the game, admits his heart is the size of Grinch; but give some credit and know how to give a closing argument he would be the best player ever. He is terrible on judgement day. Parv played a great game and really was impressive in challenges and I could accept that. Sandra are you serious! I guess in this game you win if you absolutely do nothing but your peers feel better about themselves to give you a million. Have a backbone the other two earned it. IMO the worst jury ever. A fine season with a terrible result. I predict many people are going to turn off the tv sets to the show....

No, it wasn't. Tyson voted himself out. He had a 6-2 alliance in his favor. All he had to do was vote the way he was told and no matter if Russell or Parvati had the immunity idol the other would have been voted off. Instead his ignorance took over he listened to Russell and voted for Parvati, Russell gave her the idol and instead of it being 3-2 and Russell going home genius Tyson let it be 3-2 against him and his own vote put him out. At least James never voted himself out.

 

That is one way of looking at it about Tyson. I think it is far worse having immunity wrapped up and giving it away than getting blindsided. When you do not have immunity, anything can happen, see Tyson, James, and J.T. Erik had the immunity necklace around his own neck, gave it to someone else and everyone else proceeded (a group of women including Parvati) to vote him out with a wink and nod.

You nailed it except for this part... The show averages over 13 million viewers a week. As good as this past season was, I would guess those numbers will not fall off.

 

The game has shown many times that you do not have to be great at all three elements to win. However I believe the social game is about 40% of it, the strategic game is 25% of it and the physical game is 25% of it and 10% of it is intangible/luck.

Not sure I agree that the most popular person will always win, not the best player. I think if Russell did not leave such a wake of tactlessness behind him that he would have had a shot at winning. Todd Herzog was a brutally strategic player that won the game via the "respect the strength of how hard I played the game". He did so because he was able to lie and not be deceitful about it. Russell wants to lie and manipulate the other players in the game, but then wants to rub their noses in it too and then talk about how "great" he is... He is so blinded by his own ego he can not even see that "he" is the one who played a flawed game. Instead he tries to state the game is flawed...

I agree with you about Russell in front of the jury. He was horrible. As I wondered why he took Parvati over Jerri, one thought was he was going to say both Parvati and Sandra had already won and that he deserved it. Whereas Jerri had not won either. He didn't even mention that. I don't think he knows how to be friendly and try to win people over. He is an arrogant bully and he can't turn it off. How can he continue to say he wouldn't change a thing when he got zero votes? That shows why he can't win the game. At the end of the day, winning jury votes is what wins you the game and Russell is not good at that.

 

As to Sandra winning, she got the Heroes votes because she pointed out to them several times at the jury session that she tried to get them to vote Russell off and they ignored her. I think all those Heroes gave her credit for seeing that and blamed themselves for not listening to her. Plus the Heroes hated Russell and Parvati was too much like Russell to get votes. You do have to give Sandra credit for aggressively talking with all the competitors and positioning herself at each Tribal Council so she would not be voted off. In some ways, she gets more credit because she never won immunity, was exposed to more votes than anyone and yet was never voted off. I thought she played a great strategic/social game.

One more thing about Russell. I know it is a game so you can't compare it exactly to real life. But for those who think Russell should get votes, imagine doing business with him. He lies straight to your face, tells you you can trust him and then does the exact opposite a half hour later. And then he laughs at you for believing him. Would you ever do business with him again? Would you even talk to him again? Russell's style does not include respect for anyone. It is all about him and no one has success in this world without respecting others, even in the cut throat game of Survivor.
