We start hearing that these snow storms and colder weather is caused by man made global warming...

I am sure we will hear about how all that extra CO2 we are pumping into the atmosphere (about 1.5% of overall CO2 production is man made) is causing these wild weather patterns...

Here's a few shots from Washington DC this week...

Obama still believes in Global Warming and Cap and Trade... with cross country skiiers traversing DC sidewalks.

Florida citrus growers have lost about 10% of their crops this year due to record cold in January.

Congress has been shut down three days in a row... nothing is getting done... to this I say, "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."

I'll have to look for the source again, but I read somewhere that for overall global temperatures, this was one of the warmest Januarys on record. Weather does not equal climate.

When they say overall global temps, is that a worldwide average? Looking back on the past 365 days, we had the coolest summer I can remember followed by a relatively cold winter.

Accepting your premise that weather is short term, often volatile and apparently contrary at times to the longer term "climate" trends... I resubmit a question I asked in Post 123 in the “Climate Warming Data Manipulation” thread:

July 15, 1942 a flight of six P-38s and two B-17 bombers departed Maine bound for Britain. Foul weather and icing caused them to put down near the southeastern border of Greenland. The aviators were rescued, but the aircraft were abandoned. Fifty years later, a recovery team labored to extricate one of the P-38s from beneath 268 feet of ice… yep, you read right… 268 FEET of ICE. And this was in an area of Greenland SOUTH of the Arctic Circle.

If the latter half of the 20th Century is indeed the warmest on record, and if the greenhouse effect over the past 50 years was double the rate of the whole century. How the frig did a WWII aircraft sitting near the southern shore of Greenland (south of the Arctic Circle) get trapped under nearly 270 feet of ice?

That's a 27 story building worth of ice accumulating in just 50 years... at an average rate of 5.4 feet per year… during what we’re told were 50 of the fastest warming years on record.

I seriously would like someone... anyone… to answer how the P-38 that became known as "The Glacier Girl"... became entombed under 270 feet of ice SOUTH of the Arctic where we're told by Al Gore that temperatures have risen so dramatically that polar bears are endangered by record ice melts.

True that weather does not equal climate. One thing I am sure of is that climate will change cooling/warming going forward without regard for homosapiens.

Very true.

As a science teacher, it is important for me to point out the difference between weather and climate. Even though we are cold and snowed in here in the midwest and east coast, we are only a part of the whole picture.

I am undecided on the issue as to how much global climate change can be attributed to humans. I've been hearing about is since the early 80s, so it's not an issue of politics (former VP Gore or anyone else) to me. As a result, I usually avoid threads on it in P/R...or anywhere for that matter. The best that I can do is look at information myself and draw my own conclusions.

You think that they are the same thing?

Completely agree with you, I wish this issue had not been so politicized so we could really let the true scientists be able to perform their work without bias.

Exactly! It's amazing how few people understand the real concept. It would have been better if they never coined that term for climate change. It causes too much confusion among the less informed.

I liked this part best:

Weather is what will happen next weekend; climate is what will happen over the next decades and centuries. And while our ability to predict the former has become reasonably reliable, scientists are still a long way from being able to make accurate projections about the future of the global climate.

You mean global warming?
