IMO this is a statement game for Dayton. It says that the Greendevils can run with the big dogs, or at very least, the mid-majors.

 

Having already lost close to Holy Cross and defeated Lloyd earlier in the season, the ability to compete with the Cru (who defeated Boone County) speaks volumes for Coach Dilts' program this year. While getting over the hump and posting the win would have really made a statment, this shows that this year's Dayton Greendevils are indeed a Division II caliber team.

 

Giving up 73 points says the Devils need to take a crash course on defense in order to position themselves to win these type games.

 

Unfortunately, entrapped in a brutally tough district. Here's hoping for the old Dayton-Bellevue draw.

Fun game to watch but remember the Crusaders were short players.

I might agree with you Mustang but St. Henry was playing without several key players due to injury and illness.

 

Dayton is a solid DIII team and that's about it. They'd likely get beat bad if they played Newcath, Holmes, Highlands, Covcath, Boone, Conner, Ryle, Scott, Brossart, Campbell Co, or any of the other bigger schools.

I understand the fact that St. Henry was without a couple guys, but this game could have easily went the Greendevils' way. They ran into some horrible luck, especially late. 2 deflected passes fell right into the hands of a St. Henry player for the layup down the stretch, the kinds of bounces you just can't explain. St. Henry also got every possible good roll and #13 had several shots that bounced 2 or 3 times on the rim before going in.

 

Both teams played very hard on both ends of the floor and it's a shame someone had to lose. With these teams playing the exact same players I would say if they played 10 times they would split right down the middle. It was a pretty evenly matched game.

 

The best thing about this game for the Greendevils is that they were not satisfied with a close loss and EXPECTED to win this game. There will always be doubters but I don't believe that there are many teams in the region that would blow the Greendevils out. With a lot of people talking about Newport in the top 2-3 in the region and Dayton gave them everything they could handle in the first game they played and I believe they could play with just about anybody.

Dayton lost by 12 and 17 to Newport and also lost to South Oldham by 24...what makes you think they'd be able to compete with the other big schools in nky??

You have to say this a good win for St.Henry also, they played short handed at Dayton and came away with the win. Dayton played well and the 3 ball kept them in the game. St.Henry only had 4 players score.

I just think that they would make a good game out of it for all but about 3-4 teams. Just my opinion. Did I say they could beat everyone in the region? No.

 

They play to the level of their competition on most nights (be it a good or bad team), and have had their opportunities to win every game except for 2 (2nd Newport game and South Oldham). I understand that they haven't played the toughest of the tough, but I just KNOW that this senior class will not go down without a fight against anyone no matter the caliber of opponent.

 

I have faith in these kids and maybe sometimes that faith is blind, but this is simply my opinion and nothing else.

The first Newport game was MUCH closer than the final score would suggest, it was a back and forth 2 point game the whole way until late in the 4th and Newport hit all of their free throws.

 

The 2nd game was not such a good game by the Greendevils. As far as the South Oldham game, there's not much I can say about that. That was the absolute worst game I have EVER seen this team play-no energy at all. It could have had something to do with playing a late morning game on Christmas break, but IDK.

It is a tough year for the NKAC D3 schools. None of them are much of a threat to the bigger schools. I don't think any D3 schools could beat one N. Ky. top 10 team. I don't see any D3 schools in the regional unless Dayton and Bellevue get the luck of the draw in their district. It is nice to see a solid season out of Dayton and I hope they can build on it. Game of the year for Dayton will be the final regular season game when they play Beechwood for the NKAC D3 title.

I totally agree on this as of right now, but I can tell you that Dayton will be looking to make some noise in the district no matter the draw. With the loss of Grubbs for Highlands, I think it opens the district up a little more.

I think Dayton has alot coming up. Their Jv team has only lost maybe 4 games and they havent had a full squad all year and they all are 10th graders no jrs on team. They will be in the top half in DIII for a few years to come

You arent suggesting that because Grubbs is out that Dayton has a chance to knock off the still Sr laden top 5 Region team Highlands are you?

 

Im not saying they wont make every game somewhat competetive but for Dayton to beat a Newport/NCC or Highlands they will have to hope they play mistake-free, shoot lights out and the other teams plays avg to below avg. Its just the way it is.
