Lost (TV Show)

The ABSOLUTE WORST episode of the series.

The worst finale I have ever seen of any show.

Could have been a lot better.

I couldn't disagree more. You have to realize that they show isn't as much about the island as it is about the characters. Any explanation about the islands mysteries would have just disappointed the fans because the series is so complex, that it would be impossible to provide an answer that isn't corny or original. That is why it's better that it be left open for interpretation. The writers did an absolute phenomenal job of providing closure for the characters and that is what is most important. There is no way that they were going to make everyone happy, but given the hole they dug themselves and having to tie it all together, we really couldn't have asked for more. The best thing I have read about the finale is the blog below. It does a much better job of explaining things than I ever could and is a very entertaining read.

Excellent blog! Sheds even more light on the ending.

A few questions I've heard and thought of.

In the "Oceanic 6" story arc Jack several times talked about his father being alive and still working in the hospital. Was this ever explained?

Wasn't there an arc that had Sun going to the hospital to visit a woman (other then Jin) having a baby? I can't remember the whole scenario about that happening.

The more I have thought about it the more I liked the finale. I like to think that Jack died happy on the island seeing his friends leaving, that Hurley and Ben found a way to get Desmond off of the island and I thought it was OUTSTANDING that they brought Shannon and Boone back to be part of the finale.

They did explain it, Jack was going crazy during that time and popping pills. One episode can't remember which he thinks he see's his father at the office then pops a pill and his father disappears.

I'm guessing they were all dead, because I'm assuming that Hugo and Ben protected the Island for a long long time just like Jacob did. Some people just choose to remain in purgatory for whatever reason. That's just my take on it.

It was said that time had no meaning at the church. There was only NOW! It was a place that those characters created so that they could get together and move on.

Been thinking about this. Good thing about the finale is that it was definitely that....didn't leave any doubt the series is over. I now think the flash sideways stories were alternate realities where each character was reconciling that part of their life that was flawed. Jack, father/son relationship, Sawyer crook/cop, etc.

I was unable to watch the final chapter of this wonderful show until last night. I stayed out of this thread and didn't get on other websites where there would have been answers until I watched it...

I think it was a great ending. I love how Jack finally died in the same place where he originally woke up. I love the Hurley was the final protector...I thought that he was going to be the one chosen, but when Jack stepped up last week it through me off.

The only thing I would have liked to see were Michael and Walt, but I'm sure the producers would have loved to have them as well. Either way, this was a wonderful ending to what has become probably my most favorite show...ever.

I am pretty sure that is exactly what the flash sideways was. That wasn't a real reality, it was almost their type of purgatory, which made it easier for them to accept that they were all dead (not from the plane crash, but in their own time).

I think that blog which was posted by Bengals>Steelers is very good and definitely has it right.

Maybe Ben was still alive since he did not go into the church with the rest of the people and so maybe Ben is the protector of the island.QUOTE]

I definitely don't think that Ben was still alive. He was dead, just like the rest of them. However, he wasn't ready to accept it which is why he didn't go into the church.

Roll with my on this one too...

Christian Shepard is a very interesting name, maybe because I was in the National Cathedral in DC yesterday, but I find some parrellel there. Hurley (the protector) was told to do what he does best...take care of his people/friends. In the sideways flashes he was acting as a shepard, herding his flock to the church with the help of Desmond. And I might be wrong, but it looked as though Christian Shepard opend the back doors to the bright light (heaven). I just think that is interesting.

Watched the finale again tonight when it re-aired. Can follow it a lot easier the 2nd time.

I read this article on Grantland.com — link here — a week ago Wednesday, and it got me wanting to see it again.

Had a light day of work that day, and ended up starting watching on Netflix that morning and plowing through 15 episodes by 5:30am the next morning, and pretty much haven't been able to stop since then. I'm in the middle of season 5 now. I feel like a freakin' junkie with all this horrible binge-watching …

… but it's still great, even with knowing how it all ends.

The ending killed it for me.

The ending was perfect.

I love the show. I've watched it from start to finish three different times now.

The character development was the best I feel like I've ever seen.
