A 6'7 270lb kid is not going to get that call when he is charging to the rim and then fading away on a shot.

 

If they were 0-20 from 3pt land and the coaches didnt tell them to stop shooting after missing 10 I would say that's a problem.

Good point qryche but more importantly where in that sequence of pictures does the offensive player ever get a shoulder in front of the defender. The defensive player doesn't have to give up position. Even if the offensive player went straight up you can't penalize the defense as he is entitle to his spot on the floor just as much as the offensive player. :thumb:

Thanks for proving my point, when did being big start being a disadvantage. Both on that play and when Foster charged into him were both fouls that get called if anyone else besides a big is involved. A foul is a foul period.

Players were allowed to play and that was clear on both ends of the floor. I thought the crew did a great job in a very tense and crowded gym. Nice to enjoy a game without a ton of stoppages.

 

Being totally neutral I tip my cap the refs in this game.

Congratulations to Coach Russell. Hard Earned, but definitely a moment that will mean a lot to him and his Staff. I hope they realize they have an opportunity to contend for the whole shooting match in Richmond. Keep them focused, and have fun!

Newcath is very tough to beat when they're hitting 3's. I'd say them going 0-for from outside is one of the biggest reasons they lost.

 

If you look at their wins over Boone and Newport the first game, they shot the ball well from outside.

 

I guess the old saying proves right in this scenario..."live by the 3, die by the 3."

Newport is going to compete with Holmes in the region tournament too, if they make it there....I know Holmes has beaten them by 18 and 10, but IMO this Newport team is very capable of winning the 9th region too and making it to Rupp.

Both teams last night equally suffered from sheer exhaustion. Neither seem very deep and that is their biggest problem. Hard to hit late game 3's when your legs are shot.
