Have you ever seen Jacob Reiger play?? I love Brady Jolly as a player and wish him well, but #7 and no Reiger in the top 15, who has consistently outplayed him for years--Toss in an 8th grader @11 and no O'Conner=No credibility? :confused:

Were talking about the TOP PLAYERS! The ones who can score and can score and are the best ball players, and who can score on the top teams. Dont get me wrong the Reiger kid is a great player you could throw him in the Top 15 somewhere but i wouldnt say the TOP 10. And O'Conner is a good player but he doesnt impress me at all. I might sound crazy putting an 8th grader in the top 15 but the kid improves every single game. He's sinking in his shoes and is becoming more and more comffertable each game. Look for him to go off again when they play Holy Cross on Saturday.

 

He is averaging 11.3 a game and shooting 36.2 from the field, 38.2 from 3, and 73.7 from the line, which is great for an 8th grader, but there are several other guards averaging more and/or shooting better percentages.

I agree best all around most versatile player at Boone is Montgomery. He can play any position on the floor. His passing skills at point guard are great which he has proven the past two years, he has major hops, did you see two blocks against Scott High) and is leading team in rebounds. He will shine his senior year at Boone.

I believe that Popp and Gabbard play different positions on Boone and both start. Popp usually only takes the point when Gabbard is out. Gabbard is probably a better pure point guard (assists/ball handling/passing), while some might give the edge to Popp on defense and scoring/shooting. They both seem to work fairly well together as a backcourt combination.

 

I don't think you can base top players only on scoring only. I'm curious which top guards that Hatton has put up the big numbers against so far and how many they scored on him? I have not seen him yet this year and am anxious to do so.

 

Without a doubt Hatton is a scorer for his team, but Dixie needs him in that role. Scoring is more balanced on Highlands, Boone, and some of the other teams. That's partly why teams like that are so good and have good records (several options).

 

I am also thinking about other things, like rebounding, steals, defense (how many points does the man they are guarding score?), assists, turnovers, free throw shooting, ball handling, blocks (including against pressure/presses), intangibles, etc. Some players are good but are on teams with several other good players. Some players don't put up flashy stats, but they are seasoned, experienced, and just plain win most of the time, regardless of the situation and team they are on.

 

Blake Bryan has the opportunity to do it all for this team and puts up great stats, but I would put at least 4 senior guards in NKY ahead of him based on head to head play I've seen.

 

I think that Hatton will be one of the top 5 in NKY before he graduates, and if he grows a few more inches, could play at a D2 or D1 school.

 

 

I dont understand how you can say the better teams have betetr scorers? Boone got beat by St. Henry, New Cath,??? Why dont you throw those teams in there if all you want to talk about is Boone County. I think the Region is wide open this year and i think that any team in the Region is capable of sweeping a upset.

 

On the Other hand i think that Hatton will be D1 when he leaves high school and i truly believe he will be top 5 in the STATE! The kid plays with such a swagger and atttitude that you dont see many seniors with, i think Hatton is going to score 30ppg his senior year

I realize that the team with the most points wins the game, but basketball is not always about who scores the most. There are so many other aspects of the game. That is why it is so difficult to create a list where all positions are grouped together. IMO, the best players are the kids who can do it all. They make the players around them better. Therefor their teams probably do well. Holmes, Newport for example.

The better teams have the better PLAYERS. Sure there are exceptions. But scoring is only ONE aspect of the game.

 

Dixie is 8-9. What quality wins do they have so far? How many did he have against Highlands and Newport Catholic? Did they win?

 

There are several upper classmen guards in NKY I would put ahead of Hatton in NKY at this point, including Gabbard, Foster, R. Johnson, McLeish, Popp, Pangallo, Armstrong, Smith, and Jolly. Are you saying he is better than all of those seasoned, experienced guards? Everyone one of these is capable of scoring in bunches, but they also do a lot of other things.

 

Good luck to the young man. Hope he realizes your expectations for himself if that is what he wants.

I've not seen him play but I can't imagine an eighth grader being the #11 player in NKY with all the freshman - senior talent that NKY has.

 

From what I hear he is a very good player and has a ton of potential, but this thread is titled "Top 5 Players in NKY" . You are saying that Dixie has two of the top 11 players in NKY. You sure?
