The vocal fan in the blue shirt doesn't even have a kid on the team. She said she just loves the school and kids so much she made the four hour drive to watch them play.

 

She told some stories of some kids in the CC athletic program who are overcoming some pretty large obstacles at a very young age. With adults like her supporting them, those kids will be fine.

 

She had to be disappointed but she definately gave it her all.

Sounds like he is getting some very good minutes out of Herndon and Hayes. It looks like the bench that everyone was worried about may no longer be a concern. If and when he gets Avery back on the floor it will be interesting to see how he can mix him in with the other 7. If Hayes and Herndon can take some of the pressure off of Ricardo handling the ball it will free him up to do what he does best, attack the basket on offense and lock down the other team's best player. I have thought all along that this Holmes team will go as far as Elijah Pittman and Kevon Rice take them. When Pittman stays down low he is a monster with his hops and length and Kevon has to help this team on the boards, not out on the wing where he likes to play. Tournament time is right around the corner, now is when teams need to start getting a flow to their games and get their rotations set.

I am always amazed watching Henley on the bench. Calm and cool with an occassional burst at a ref to let him know he cares. It is nice to have weapons but it is even nicer to know how to use them.

I agree.

 

I was very critical of Holmes bench play earlier in the year but lately players like Hayes and Herndon have really stepped up and it seems like Coach Henley's persistance with those two has really payed off. He continues to put them in during clutch situations and they continue to perform well...especially Hayes. He very well could end up being one of the best guards in nky next year.

 

With the role players finally stepping up and Holmes getting Avery back next week, this teams looks to finally be heading in the right direction after some early season struggles.

Jaydale Herndon hit a 15-footer with 2:30 remaining in overtime and Holmes held on for a 72-69 come-from-behind win over Christian County Saturday evening in boys' basketball action at the Joe B. Hall Classic in Montgomery County.

 

Holmes, ranked No. 1 in the latest Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches' poll, improved to 13-4.

 

Herndon, a senior guard, had sent the game into overtime with a tip-in at the buzzer in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 65.

 

Christian County held the lead through most of the game until senior forward Elijah Pittman hit a 3-pointer to tie the score at 63 with 45 seconds remaining in regulation. Herndon followed a Christian County go-ahead bucket with the buzzer-beater.

 

Pittman led all scorers with 34 points and added nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Herndon finished with six points.

No. 9 Holmes 72, No. 7 Christian County 69 (OT): On a night when a lot of things didn't go right for them, the defending state champ Bulldogs found a way to win.

 

Holmes rallied from an eight-point deficit late in regulation to tie it on Jaydale Herndon's put-back at the buzzer, then survived in overtime.

 

The Bulldogs' 6-7 senior Elijah Pittman had 24 of his 34 points in the second half, including three clutch free throws in the last 48 seconds.

 

Holmes senior Ricardo Johnson, rated the top player in the state in the pre-season, was in foul trouble most of the night. He had four points before fouling out with five minutes left in regulation.

 

Holmes Coach David Henley credited Jeremiah Johnson's defense on Christian County's Anthony Hickey down the stretch for turning the game around. Hickey had 27 points but did not score in the last seven minutes.

 

Donovan Kates had 20 points for the Colonels, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped.

MC gym actually has the light up backboards as play ends. The ref was very animated making the basket good call several times with his hands. A brief discussion was had but no one seemed to complain too much.

 

The extra second was added prior to the play but imo was a good decision. Clearly time was called by the coach and the far side official immediately held up 4 fingers for the time left, clock read 3.

 

As usual it would be interesting to see the video.

The MC officials were running the clock and they did a great job, so there was no home cooking.

 

There was no question that the basket was good, as the ball was on the glass and out of the shooter hand as the horn sounded and the lights went on! Really, it was a easy call for the men in stripes, due to the lights on the backboard!

I agree and dont have a horse in the race. But the game ends when the clock reaches 0:00 and not when the red light comes on. There were some Christian County fans I talked to (not the women) who thought the clock hit 0:00 with the ball in the hands of Rice.

Scoreboards are very difficult to see in MC. Far away from the field of play and in the corners. The ref was emphatic in his call. I didn't even see the tip in so I have no idea good or bad. TOG had a much better view than I did.

 

As far as the lighted backboard why have it if it doesn't matter?

I thought Christian County lost the game when they were trying to kill the clock with just under a minute left in the game.

 

Sorry but if the CC fans want to be upset with someone, then they should be upset with the player who fouled the Holmes shooter on a easy layup near the .50 second mark of the game. Huge and I mean huge "bad" play by the CC player as there was no reason to foul the Holmes shooter, as the CC player fouled the shooter from behind!

 

If not for the foul, Holmes would have had to make a trey to tie the game!
