January 22, 201016 yr Just a reference to the previous host being on earlier. A lot feel that the troubles have been the lead-in sabotage. Leno's show and ratings have been awful. That in turn affects the local news viewership, which has been down. That's the entire reason Leno got cancelled at 10:00, because the affiliates were complaining. Lower local news viewership means a lower lead-in to Conan. When Leno started, NBC was on the top, and he had no such problem to contend with. It's not like Johnny Carson got another show at 10:00 that tanked to start a domino effect. how much was it to air leno's 10 o clock showing?
January 22, 201016 yr I like how Letterman started on Leno a few days ago, and Leno is coming back at him, lol. It makes for great TV, lol.
January 22, 201016 yr how much was it to air leno's 10 o clock showing? It only cost about 2 million per week for 46 weeks of original shows. A scripted primetime show cost about 3 million per week on average for 22 weeks or original weekly episodes.
January 22, 201016 yr Well despite what you think...he had the largest number of viewers than any other late night host. You may not think he is funny, however the majority of the rest of the population thought otherwise.:thumb: I have to agree with Jim on this one. Jay isn't that funny. I rarely watched "The Tonight Show" with him. I watched it with Conan far more often.
January 22, 201016 yr how much was it to air leno's 10 o clock showing? If all they cared about was the cost, it never would have been canceled. The show was canceled not only because of lower than desired ratings, but because they were on the cusp of an all-out affiliate revolt over the terrible lead-in he was giving to the news.

As I have said before, comedy is subjective. Some believe Napoleon Dynamite is the funniest movie ever created, I think it is highly overrated. Some like Dane Cook, other despise him.

No, they care about the ratings, and at first thought that Leno would have a good following at 10pm, as well as pick up some more viewers who do not stay up late enough to watch at least parts of the Tonight Show. They figured since it would be cheaper, that it was a win-win situation. Yeah some of the affiliates were upset, that along with sagging ratings for the Tonight Show NBC thought they had to do something. Again, this way not the doings of the current NBC executives. I still think that the "lead-in" thing is a bit over-blown. I watch a certain newscast (when I watch the network news), I do not care which channel I am watching from 10-11 PM, I'll switch to the newscast that I always watch. But that is rare that I watch it, at least all the way through, as usually I am watching The Daily Show.

January 23, 201016 yr Conan's speech broke my heart. And he showed a lot of bitterness in the last few weeks, deservedly so IMO though I would not disagree with someone that called it whining, but Conan as always showed his respect for the institution that is the Tonight Show, and he thanked NBC for all they've done for him over his career.
January 23, 201016 yr Great speech by Conan, I've been watching him for so many years that I started to tear up as he teared up...

I don't know that I would call it whining. He had fun with what could have been a bad situation, and he had fun at NBC's expense. They did do him a little wrong so I have no problem with that. Thankfully he and his staff were compensated well for NBC's wrong doing. NBC is very stupid for making this decision though IMO. Conan will be a star for a very long time.

Where NBC has made a mistake is in their future. Whenever Leno retires (and he will someday - he turns 60 this year and ain't getting any younger - Johnny retired at 66), who the heck is going to replace him now? Jimmy? UGH!

Leno won't be around much longer, and Conan will. Conan will be around after Letterman and Leno are both gone, and Conan will be the #1 talk show.
