Just saw 200 or so buses pull into town with TX plates. I guess Abilene didnt get the memo about Highlands only holding 4000 or so. I dont know where they are going to park all of those buses. With the Sideline Club lot already full and Death Valley full of TV trucks this one could be a mess. Its only 8 am or so and there appears to be a bald older gentleman with glasses and his lovely wife sitting in the stands under the pressbox. Man they must be diehard Highlands fans. The city of Ft. Thomas is applying that road treatment to the field as we speak due to the predicted snow that we all know wont come. GO BIRDS! 20n10

 

What if these Texas boys have never seen snow. Maybe they would panic like my wife does. :lol:

There goes our perfect season and perfect record against out-of-state mythical opponents. But I'm sure Dale and the boys will learn from this defeat and simulate working even harder in the off-season, so that next season, they will be virtually assured of a national championship! :thumb:

It was a great run. They pulled off two upsets but trying to make it a third upset against a Texas powerhouse was too much to ask for. You gotta love all the publicity for Highlands and Kentucky football!

I could tell when they came out they were in trouble, it's like they weren't even there.

92 boys have signed up for Highlands football for 2010 season. 70 boys at winter training yesterday. Collinsworth not playing in Army All American game Saturday due to new pins in his broken thumb. He will be there though. Mueller one of 5 finalists for national coach of the year. Winner will be announced at the game.

Early word from a source close to the program is that we had some key injuries to our skill players, the breaks didn't go our way, the other team executed when they needed to, we didn't make stops in third down situations, we struggled in the trenches, our passing game wasn't clicking, we broke down in the red zone, we struggled with the elements, half the team got food poisoning at a burger joint outside of Texarkana, and the officiating was suspect, to say the least...but we're not about making excuses.

I have to say this may have been the most enjoyable Highlands thread all year. I loved the way everyone approached this in a light hearted manner and just had fun with it without making too big a deal out of it. Kudos to the Bird fans on this one!

 

By the way, I am looking forward to tailgating at the Ft. Thomas Swim Club next year. I hear it is the best place to be with the parking situation at Highlands ... and just a short walk to the stadium.

Highlands came out flat. Must have been looking past Abilene for a match up with Don Bosco.

I knew we were in trouble when I drove by the stadium and heard the PA announcer mispronouncing the names of the wrong HHS players all the penalties were getting called on. At the 915 after the game, everyone was commenting on how bad the officiating was and that if we had gotten a fair shake, the outcome would have been much different.

 

On a brighter note, it was nice to see the band perform again in those multicolored costumes, listen to the national anthem performed by Weird Al Yankovic and see the flyover of F-18s. :thumb:
