Not many people in the state do this, Setty won't be playing the likes of Holmes every night look for him to bounce back.:thumb:

 

I was actually surprised Mason was right there in the end and had there chance to tie or win with Setty only scoring 2 points and both of those were free throws...Says a lot about the other talent on this team!!!

I am disappointed with how they have played for the most part this season though, not knocking MC, but last year if Holmes jumped up 21-6 on anyone they would have played the whole game with a decent lead and just laid on the opponet. This year they are either giving up leads or playing from behind because they have yet to be able to put together and complete game vs anyone. This could be a problem vs good teams, as it almost was tonight.

Would never have believed that the only dunk seen tonight was in the first game. Glad I got there early for a very entertaining game. There was times you could hear crickets in the first half of the Holmes-Mason County game. What are the chances that Mason County scores over 50 points against Campbell County on Tuesday?

As long as they win,I'm fine with it...Holmes and Mason was a very intense game with a lot defense involved..I guess you don't like the lower scoring type games?I think Holmes and Mason County would hold there own against anybody so I'm not sure where u think it so boring?In case you just looked gone are the days of Mason putting up 90 a game and winning by 30,But they still seem to be doing ok and holding there own,And they will just get better as they get healthy as will Holmes...

I'm not one that normally says anything about the officiating but when Holmes jumped out to the 21-6 lead, there were several questionable calls that went against them on their 5 straight possessions that allowed Mason to creep back in the game.

 

In the third quarter Mason fought back to pull within 1 at 31-30 but Holmes stepped up their defense and got several key buckets at the beginning of the 4th to push the lead out to 6 at 36-30.

 

From here on out it was a 4-6 point game until Holmes pushed their lead out to 11 at 49-38 with a little over a minute to go and then 50-40 with around 45 second left. Holmes committed a dumb foul and gave Mason a 4 point play after a made 3. After this Holmes broke the pressure but Rice threw an Alley oop attempt surprisingly too high for Pittman which gave the ball back to Mason. Gilbert came down and hit another three to cut the lead to 50-47, but Holmes would make 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

 

For Holmes, Pittman was a man among boys out there. He flat out dominated Setty and Setty was frustrated the whole night. I was disappointed with how much Setty "cried" to the officials. He doesn't like physical play at all. If he's the D1 prospect that everyone says, he needs to hit the weightroom big time because Pittman was too strong for him down low all night.

Agree about Gilbert and Lang, any team would love to have those guards. Setty has got to realize this isn't AAU. His offense has digressed since several games before the Clark County regional game, didn't he only have 2 in that game as well?

I was impressed with both Gilbert and J. Lang. Once those two started moving on offense and attacking, things really opened up for them.

 

Gilbert has a pretty stroke from outside. He missed his first few shots, but once he got going, man was he on fire from outside.

 

As far as Setty, I think it has more to do with him not liking physical play. He was trying to push Pittman around all night down low and Pittman was just smiling and laughing. Setty has to realize when you're complaining to the refs the whole night, you aren't going to get very many calls. I was very disappointed with his play. Not sure how many rebounds he had, but for a 6'8 kid, I would have expected him to crash the boards a little harder and be much stronger than he showed. Black and the other Lang both rebounded very well despite being undersized, compared to Holmes front court.

 

Mason is a very good team with or without Pawsatt and Harris. There aren't too many teams that's going to beat that bunch when they get healthy.
