Personally thought CovCath's Jake Thelen deserved this award, despite being on the third place finisher?? Had something like 28, 38 and 24 points in his 3 games, along with a ton of assists, rebounds and blocks!!

Royals showed a lot of heart after Ashland got back in the game. Setty and Gilbert each picked up their 4th foul late in the third quarter, still found a way to win.

Yep. We were going to just go to game 1 against Christian County, wound up going to all three Mason County games.

 

After all, it's only a 154-mile round trip for us.

Nice win for the Royals on Ashland's home floor and in their own tourney.

 

Really looking forward to seeing MC in person Saturday night.

Amen!! Listened to him through 3 quarters coming home, and he finally had some love for the home team in the 3rd. Lost him and picked up DW the rest of the game. Sounded like three games within one?

No doubt. Crunch time pretty much the entire 4th quarter. His unofficial stat line - 9 minutes, 12 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Yea, what a joke. To beat it all, the MVP trophy was bigger than the team championship plaque. This kind of puts more of an emphasis on individual accolades than it does on team accomplishments. I would have been embarrassed to carry around that ridiculously large trophy, knowing that my team had lost the game. This is sending the wrong message to these young student athletes.

I don't see this happening. Mason County cannot match up with Holmes' athleticism.

 

Also, how can you consider Mason County the team to beat ahead of Clark County?

 

Because Clark has done nothing, so far, to prove otherwise.

It's easy to score 28 in one quarter, when you do it with the clock stopped and 8 players on the floor.

I could be mistaken (surprise), but I thought that they said on the post-game show that the tourney MVP was selected by one person rather than a committee. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Congrats Mason Co on the win. Not the field of teams as the KOB or the Republic Bank classic, but still a nice win.

Last week I was critical of the Referees at Greenwood and after watching the game last night, the Greenwood officials should be awarded the state tournament. Mason totally dominated the game in the first half to lead 31-14 and there was only two two fouls shots by both teams with neither team getting in the bonus. At halftime, the refs must have changed whistles. In the third quarter alone, Ashland made 12-15 FT and Gilbert, Brad Lang and Setty all went from one foul to four fouls each in about four minutes. The game was called different in the third quarter and then again called differently in the fourth. The Tomcats only shot 2 FT in the fourth qtr as Mason shot 11-12 to seal the game. It was a very wierd game. Mason is now 9 - 2 and won the Ashland Invitational Tournament and has only played one game at the Fieldhouse. :clap::clap::clap:
