Highlands 50 Walton-Verona 40

They had a blarg (block/charge). The lead official had a charge and the "C" official had a block. It was handled appropriately and the proper rule application was used. For those who are unaware of some of the coverage areas, this was a dual coverage area and this will sometimes happen. Personally attacking an official for his physique is taking it to far. The game was officiated fairly and the best team won. Congrats to Highlands and I'm sure the Lady Cats will rebound from this loss.

Obviously, officials try to avoid the blarge at all costs. However, it occasionally happens and it sounds like it was handled by the rulebook. The key is eye contact when the whistle blows and not to be too fast in your call.

I always tell my daughter that there are two things you need NOT complain about, the "officials" and the "venue." You cannot change either one! Get over it and play 110%.

Kudos too the supporting cast. I thought for sure the winner of the Towels - Dixon match up would tip the scale.

I thought Towles was pressing too hard for her 1000th pt. She needs to relax and let the game come to her. The points will come

In over 40 years of watching basketball I've never heard nor seen a block and a charge called for conduct occurring during the same play between two players. I've seen officials get together and talk about it. The result has always been one foul called not two.

I don't know why she would be pressing to hard. According to the paper she only needed 8 points. She has probably 20 something games left.

How can you have a block and a charge on the same play? That's like calling a ball and a strike on one pitch.

Very rarely will you see it. I've only witnessed it maybe two times at the high school level.

The problem with your "getting together" comment is that if you've already signaled the block and I've already signaled the charge there is no getting together. We saw what we saw and we let everyone know about it. What should happen is that both officials go up with the foul signal , realize their partner also has a foul, and usually the official whose primary area it was in will take the call and the other will simply not indicate anything.

Incorrect. Your example would only be valid if the field ump also called balls and strikes.

Pitch was a ball and the strike is a check-swing. Humor me.

Still not the same. The base umpire does not "signal" until asked. In basketball, you signal when you see it. Both officials saw what they saw.

Your overall point is correct that logically it cannot be both a block and charge. The rulebook supports how this was enforced.

In other words, one of them blew the call. :sssh:

Then the rulebook is wrong and it should be changed.

How would you change it?
