Royals play Ashland/Cov Cath in the finals.

Good win for the Royals. They were great at the free throw line, only missing 2 for the game.

These are not your old Royals, they're probably averaging 50 points a game, but Coach O' Hearn knows what he has and is adjusting to their strengths, which isn't offense,but defense. This is last year's JV team except for Setty and Gilbert. Does anyone know what happened to Manship? Have asked before but no one seems to know the answer. Good win for the County.

Brossart played them really close but just couldn't get over that hurdle to take a lead. Good luck Royals and keep your heads up 'Stangs.

Manship was dinged up from what I understand. He didn't dress yesterday. Dressed today but didn't play.

Mason County is playing some great "in your face" defense which caused us problems. Brossart returned the favor, but Mason County won the war.

 

Setty got 11 with six of those coming via free-throws, but it was Tyler Black who did the early damage and led all scorers with 18. Rieger did an admirable job with 17 points.

 

Brossart will see the Royals again on February 16th in the Fieldhouse.

Mason has seemed to have Brossart's number for the past decade. According to the KHSAA scoreboard, Brossart has not beaten Mason since the 2000 10th Region championship. That is a streak of 18 consecutive wins. This is an amazing stat, considering some of the good teams the Mustangs have had during this time period. I know Mason has been strong, but you would still think that Brossart would have at least pulled one or two wins.

I know Mason has been strong, but you would still think that Brossart would have at least pulled one or two wins.

 

Two names: Chris Lofton and Darius Miller. And neither one was alone. They had some guys around them that could play too. There were not a whole lot of teams that beat them during this time period. Brossart had their number before Lofton came along.

AI, Didn't you make a comment earlier this year about BBHS and their focus on defense? You said you would rather see your team score big points and lose than play tight defense and win. Good defensive battles like last night are fun to watch especially when you come out victorious. Wouldn't you agree now? :thumb:

Perhaps the new decade will be kinder to the Mustangs in our meetings with the Royals.

Mason County has defeated Bishop Brossart 18 straight times since Brossart won the Regional crown on 2000. Th closest game was 4 points on Feb 12, 2003 and belive it or not Mason defeated Brossart 89 to 77 on March 5, 2002. Where was the defense????

Brossart played tremendous defense in that game. I thought that Mason Co would probably score 100 that night. Brossart really slowed it down that night. :thumb:
