I will be glad to give him one. Coach Faust does a great job. His teams always play smart, hard nosed basketball. He gets better results with less talent than anyone in the area. Coach Faust has been a top five coach in the 9th region for the better part of the last decade. :thumb:

 

That is where I have a huge disagreement. St. Henry is a basketball only, private school pulling from multiple feeder schools that all have very good basketball programs. There is great tradition going all the way back to the 60's. There is zero reason for St. Henry to ever be less than a top ten team in basketball in N. Ky. I think Faust is a good coach. But he isn't working any miracles like everyone seems to believe. He is doing exactly what any coach at St. Henry should be doing with the talent they get year in and year out.

 

There ... I finally got that off my chest. I feel better now. I know I am probably in the minority on this and I expect no support in this thread for my opinion. Sorry to hijack the thread and I will try to avoid this topic going forward.

Agreed. He played very well last year against Pittman of Holmes.

 

Actually, both he and Watson did. Highlands has a lot of depth in their front court this year.

I did not mean to suggest St. Henry has less talent than anyone in the region. I meant it as a compliment to Coach Faust's ability to squeeze the best results out of the talent he has. While Coach Faust has the benefit of coaching good players, the St. Henry talent pool is typically not as deep as Holmes, Cov. Cath., Highlands, Boone County or New. Cath. I think the same observation could be made about Coach Schumate at Beechwood. Sounds like the Cru could have used a few more horses last night against the Birds.

I thought St. Henry played very hard last night. No problem with the effort.

Where do you come up with this thinking? St. Henry has state championships in cross country, soccer, track. They are not drawing students based on basketball. While they have a great basketball program and you couldn't ask for a better coach than Coach Faust, you can hardly consider St. Henry a basketball only school.

I saw the game and I cannot remember a game where there were more points within 5 feet of the basket than last night. I remember a Lother 3 and one from I think Grote. Everything else was half court set layups, stick backs or fast break points and free throws. Highlands size was not defendable by the smaller Cru. To compound their troubles, the on ball defense by Highlands was suffocating and forced St. Henry to rush shots from the perimeter. They shot about 20% from the field. The only weakness I saw from Highlands was turnovers against the press.

Did Gordon play last night? If not, then that might explain the weakness against the press. Lother is a great ballhandler but is not very big and probably prone to traps. All the other kids on the floor are 6'3 or taller with the exception of Kowolonek. Gordon is a very good press breaker who can get the ball to the middle and distribute on the break very well. Grote is probably just rusty from lack of practice. I am sure he just picked up a ball last week.

 

I cant imagine the weakness being that glaring or St. Henry would have had success and not lost by 34 points. I dont know.

I was more surprised than anything and trying to offer a possible reason behind it. Hey, even the best team in the state last year, Holmes, had trouble when teams pressed them.

Holmes/HHS is going to be a barnburner. Not only is Highlands long but they're pretty thick as well and that's before the o-lineman gets back into action.

Gordon played... He was one of the 5 starters only took a few shots missed them both. Probably not his best game but he'll come around seems to step it especially against the tougher the competition..
