After I saw them play HC I was sold this team would win some games this year. They are a physical, experienced ball club and they have the ability to give a lot of 9th region teams some trouble this year. Come district play this team may give NCC, Newport and Highlands a run for their money. I know I wouldn't want to draw them.

 

It should be a very tough District Tourny this year. After seeing New Cath knock off Boone County, the way Newport is destroying people, and HIghlands experience, it is going to take a physical, agressive, and experienced ball club to compete no matter how the draw plays out.

Yes, after the JV game ended. The Dayton player had secured the rebound as time expired, he starts to walk up the floor to his bench and is pushed from behind by the Bellevue player. It was probably a good 5 seconds from when the buzzer sounded and both benches were already up and lining up to shake hands. This also happened in front of the Bellevue bench as the players were standing up and the large student section was starting to enter on the other side of the floor, so you can imagine that it felt like everyone was on top of you. The Dayton player retaliated and then in was broken up quickly.

 

Dilts is the varsity coach and he plays into this because he saw the whole thing transpire, acted immediately to get his player off the floor and then went to get an explanation from the officials. Not sure what went on with the Bellevue AD as I did not see it. I do know that this is the 2nd year in a row that a Bellevue player has given a Dayton player a cheap shot. Last year it was in the freshman game and the player was hurt and missed the rest of the season. Whatever Coach Dilts said to the AD was probably well deserved IMO and I believe he has every right to protect his players.

 

My guess is he wanted the AD to act faster and have control of his players and students, but :idunno:

 

I also wanted to add that there was another technical in the Varsity game against a Bellevue player for a shove after the play was over. It was not nearly as bad as the JV game. The Dayton player did not retaliate and the Greendevils were not assesed any technical in the Varsity game. I'm not sure if 2 is a coincidence, a trend, or a pattern. :sssh:

I was at a Dayton/Bellevue frosh game last year and do not remember a cheap shot. Did they play more than once?

JB I think you are just a sore loser supporting a program who is on a down cycle. Give the kids their props. As far as coach Eckstein goes I am sure he would love to discuss his strategies with you concerning the game of football once you admit you know nothing about the game and are willing to learn. I have seen Dayton football field. Could be the worse facilities in high school football, step up clean up your house! Does it even have running water!

First off, this is not the forum for expressing your political views.

 

As far as Dilts' decision to continue to press during the game, Dayton dressed only 11 players that night and all of them received playing time with 9 of them seeing significant time (10+ minues). If you do the math, you have to keep one of your 1-7 guys in there just to field a 5 and they were all being rotated as they would get tired because the Greendevils played hard the whole game.

 

And IMO, if you are a pressing team, what is the reasoning in taking your press off when you put your reserves in the game. You want everyone on your team to play with the same intensity no matter who is in the game with them or against them. Those players have to get the experience they need doing those things in a game situation and they may rarely get an opportunity. It is a long season and you need everyone at their sharpest to compete at a high level.

 

You couldn't have asked for a better preformance from the Greendevils top to bottom, the intensity was there throughout the whole game and they played great as a team. There is no substitute for that in practice and these kinds of experiences are necessary for players to grow IMO, you either finish or get finished.

Wow, what a rivalry of sportsmanship... Fellas I have to say that from what I read here (I was not there) I gather the following

--We all know what rivalry can do to a game, reference Holy Cross and Holes at Campbell County in '91. Coaches have to prepare their teams for that kind of emotion. (BTW I am in no way blaming the coaches for the players actions, just suggesting that preventative maintenance is a good thing.

 

-- The "sportsmanship" and class that the two sides have shown here is amazing. It does not justify, but explains why these kids are acting the way they do. I've seen this rivalry for the last fifteen years and it is one of the great matchups in the state. But if you continue to instill this attitude in the kids, it will not get any better. :ohbrother:

Basketball is not classified and I am sure you are one of the posters on here that will remind the State All A champion that they did not win a state championship. It may be a joke to you, but there are a lot of class A schools around this state and if you don't care for the contests they play then maybe you should save your opinions for the larger school threads.

Devil4life33 you seem to be a little one sided when telling the story. I understand you had your green goggles on. I occasionally have my Tiger goggles on. You left out the part where Diltz grabbed the second ( a varsity ) player that was trying to get a piece of the Bellevue Player. Any time you have a rival game like Bellevue and Dayton it's going to get ugly once in a while on the playing field. When people get on here and post all the petty things, others think these two school just don' get along at all. On the contrary most of the students get along very good and have played sports together all their lives. It's generally the adults that don't get along.

 

As for the comment about playing a football player in the second half. I guess a little sports lesson is in order. In football once the opposing team scores a certain amount of points (45) the mercy rule goes into effect. This makes the game go faster by continuously running the clock, thus limiting the amount a team gets beat by.In basketball when a team continues to press another team that they are clearly over matching this creates turnovers and tends to stop the clock thus slowing the game down. This also allows the team doing the pressing to score more points thus the margin of victory is greater.After the lesson can you explain how you equate the two? The one is an attempt to speed the game up by utilizing a running clock. Thus limiting the number of opportunities Bellevue had to score. Because if they wanted to Bellevue would have scored 100 with Buckler going over 500 yards. The other an attempt to score as many points possible and humiliate your opponent.

First, As far as Ricky Buckler went this year in football, he had 30 carries in the Dayton game. Which if anyone would have read the papers this was roughly his average for carries in a game, even if it was a blowout or a close game. By the way he only carried the ball during the first series of the 2nd half. Also, Sullivan had only 8 carries in the Dayton game. Now, maybe in the Dayton rushing attack that is classified as doing all you can, but in a quality rushing attack and a quality coaching strategy that is called "mixing it up".

 

Second, I know for a fact that the Bellevue players did not walk through the Dayton warm-ups. The players carried their stuff to the sideline and then went to the locker room (which is built like a holding cell). Plus, if Dayton's field wasn't such a crap hole and actually had room for people to move around in this would never be an issue. Plus, the "leaking" that Eckstein and his player supposedly did, was again because that locker room is built like a holding cell and trust me that "leakage" is definitely an upgrade to that facility.

 

Now, back to the basketball game. Obviously if you were there and had any basketball knowledge, the Bellevue player fouled to get the clock to stop as they were only down about 5 points. This foul was in no way, a waylay. If so, then an intentional and/or flagrant foul would have been called right away.

Hey Wally, It is not my gym! I do not have any connection with the Bellevue basketball program whatsoever! Just a fan of sports. And a fan of a good rivalry, which this is. If the score board doesn't work properly then i am sure it will be fixed.

 

I have an idea, Every one say one thing postive about each communiy or school and then we can all hug it out at the end! I will start!

 

I think Bellevue is a small community school with great heart and the desire to be champions.

I am really confused by some of the football talk. I cannot talk about the basketball games since I was not there and it is not fair to either side to go off what I have read here.

 

As for the sportsmanship in the football game: Coach Eckstein was not doing anything unsportsman-like by letting the Buckler kid run the ball a few times in the second half. He had no carries in the 4th quarter. I know of no teams/coaches that do not come out of the lockerroom after half and not play their starters on at least the first possession. I can't not remember how many possessions Buckler was in the game in the 2nd half but I do know it wasn't much. The fact that Sullivan got more carries is probably due to the fact that he was the backup runningback. Usually when a starter is taken out the backup comes in. The Bellevue football team could have named the score in that gmae, but Coach Eckstein called off the dogs early in the 2nd half.
