November 30, 200916 yr Chargers have won 6 straight after starting the year off 2-3. Like Titans, they have found their rhythm but started off strong. Weren't the Broncos 6-0 at one time? That would mean they are 1-4 in their last 5 games. The Chargers started off slow because their schedule was tough. They lost to the Ravens, Steelers & Broncos. All 3 are very good teams. The Broncos have struggled recently. Part of their early season success was due to a relatively easy schedule. They beat the Bengals in Week 1 on a fluke. They beat the Browns in week 2 & won easily in Oakland on Week 3. Then they beat the Cowboys, Patriots & Chargers in a row. All 3 of those teams are respectable. Then they lost to Pittsburgh & Baltimore. They lost AT Washington (bad loss) and again to San Diego. This week, they bounced back and beat the Giants. The Broncos are not a bad team. They're struggling with a difficult schedule, but have proven that they're a solid team against some of the best that the NFL has to offer.
November 30, 200916 yr I'm sure some will say the North is down because Cincy sweep it. Sour grapes... I remember the Pitt is gonna win the AFC hype starting up before Cincy went to Pitt and beat them. Now that Pitt has loss three in a row the division is down? It's pretty simple. This is the NFL, you take any win you can get, I'd be willing to bet the North gets two playoff teams still. You're the only one who has said that. And as for your second point, the Steelers just came off of winning it all, and most Bengal fans on here picked them to win the division, so not sure if you're aiming that anywhere, but didn't it seem logical that the best team in the league would be the favorite the following season? And lastly, as for the Bengals, I'd never have imagined that they would be where they are today without Carson having an MVP type season, and clearly he's not. And that's a testament to their defense and the running game. As bad as it pains me to say, I think that this team is far from reaching it's stride. They have room for major improvement. That may not bode well for the Steelers and Ravens who are both aging on both sides of the ball in the next few years.

That would mean they are 1-4 in their last 5 games. The Chargers & the Titans are not similar. The Titans struggled and switched their quarterback. Vince Young has taken over & they're a much better team. The Chargers struggled early on because their early season schedule was difficult.
November 30, 200916 yr Author Week 1 - Fluke play + the Broncos aren't awful Schaub went crazy against us, he's having a great year. Raiders game was a huge let down after two big divisional wins. The Bengals also won at Green Bay (7-4), the only team besides Minnesota to do so. Record of the teams the Bengals have lost to 15-18. Green Bay was a nice win. The record of their two victories outside the division, 11-11.
November 30, 200916 yr So is the argument that he division is down because the Bengals are at the head of it and they are 2-3 outside of it? How do you explain the Ravens/Steelers having good records outside of it then? I'm eager to hear an argument for another division, rather than just the flaws of the AFC North.

They shouldn't be winning like they are but they just keep finding ways to win. Remember how bad everyone said the Steelers offensive line was last year. And somehow they won the Super Bowl with a bad offensive line.

How do you explain the Ravens/Steelers having good records outside of it then? I'm eager to hear an argument for another division, rather than just the flaws of the AFC North. I can't tell you because I am baffled on how the Bengals look so good against two teams, Steelers/Ravens, that I think are quality programs and then look so bad outside the division.
November 30, 200916 yr I can't tell you because I am baffled on how the Bengals look so good against two teams, Steelers/Ravens, that I think are quality programs and then look so bad outside the division. Because two of the three losses were just dumb mistakes or fluke plays that they didn't make against the Ravens and Steelers.
November 30, 200916 yr I can't tell you because I am baffled on how the Bengals look so good against two teams, Steelers/Ravens, that I think are quality programs and then look so bad outside the division. Because the teams in the division are all built with the other teams in the division in mind in order to take advantage of division-mates' weaknesses.

First answer that I think is a quality answer.:thumb: Now, will that translate into success in the playoffs. It has in the past years with Steelers and Ravens. Or will the Bengals do as they did with Houston and Raiders?:irked:

Having to play Pitt/Balt four times every year, you better be able to win some of those games to even get to the playoffs. As we have seen in the past, this brand of football typically has good success in the post season also.

Having to play Pitt/Balt four times every year, you better be able to win some of those games to even get to the playoffs. As we have seen in the past, this brand of football typically has good success in the post season also. My first sentence in the thread.... The Bengals have done a great job winning the games on their schedule and putting themselves in great position. I agree. With that divisional record, they should be a lock to be in the playoffs. And honestly, if they would have taken care of business at Oakland, they would be 9-2 with basically a 4-game lead over the Ravens/Steelers with 5 to play. Next week, they should have been ready to clinch the division like the Colts did last night.
November 30, 200916 yr Chargers have won 6 straight after starting the year off 2-3. Like Titans, they have found their rhythm but started off strong. Weren't the Broncos 6-0 at one time? That would mean they are 1-4 in their last 5 games. The Chargers were 2 and 3 because they had losses to the Steelers and the Ravens. The Broncos were 6 and 0 then they had to play the Steelers and the Ravens back to back and that began their losing streak. So bad argument here, considering both of those teams had their bad stretches started by losing two games to AFC North teams. Also the Bengals are one of the reasons why the Steelers and Ravens aren't doing as great so far this year. I mean last year at this time both teams would have swept the Bengals, so both teams would only have 3 losses right now and look like two of the better teams in football. Its because of the Bengals being better this year, and giving them both two more losses for why they are in a fight for the playoffs now. If the Bengals were bad again, then those teams would both basically have playoffs spots close to be locked up and just fighting for the division. The AFC North is not down, just a lot tougher now for the Ravens and Steelers because of the Bengals being good. Yeah the Bengals are 2 and 3 against the rest, however one lost came on a fluke play to the Broncos. Another came to a good Houston team, who just didn't find away to lose it like they have against other teams. Then well no excuse for the Raiders lost, that was just bad. However good teams do lose to bad teams sometimes. Eagels have, Packers have. It does happen. Its funny how Bengal fans still keep trying to find reasons not to believe in this team.
November 30, 200916 yr The Steelers will win their next two games and move to 8-5 with Troy coming back watch out for the Steelers in the Playoffs.
