Sorry Pollsters - There ARE NOT 20-25 teams better than Highlands in the state of Kentucky.

How could Boone County be rated higher than Highlands??? :idunno: The two teams split last year playing head-to-head. Boone lost 3 starters including their best player. Highlands lost NO ONE and have added 6-6 Jr. Jack Stewart to the rotation.

Boone lost two starters, and return their top two players.

And therein lies the problem. I know it's no fault of yours, it's the coaches, but what coach wouldn't have Holmes in the top 10? Defending state champs, couple of the best players in the state, all that stuff. I think it's criminal to even rate them in the bottom half of the top 10.

I agree.

Who is McFarland.....did he play at Boone ??

I actually believed that McCreary would be in place of West Jessamine, with the change in coaches and the seniors that left West Jessamine. I think by the end of the year, it will be swapped around, and perhaps, McCreary will be higher.

What is weird is the following:

West Jessamine was higher in top 25, and Polson higher in player ratings.

But when you go to the 12th region, McCreary and Watts are both #1, and W. Jess. and Polson #2.

I don't understand how Elliot County can still be considered a top 25 team. I know they return a tremendous player in Timmy Knipp, but they lost pretty much all their scoring besides him from last year. I'm sure they'll compete in the 16th Region, but Coaches Iad having them as the 24th best team in the state seems ludicrious. JMO

 Brown, Spaulding, McFarland

Ok so Boone returns its top 2 players.... Highlands returns all five starters plus their entire bench. It will not be walk it up the floor and hammer it out every possession this year.

Are the players that are replacing the three mentioned above better than those three? Do they have the experience?:idunno:

Boone is overrated IMO now if they had Flannery...?

Boone will be fine.

Popp, Gabbard, Earls, and Cotton will form a nice nucleus. They recently handled Manual by about 10 in a scrimmage so the biggest problem I see for them is having Holmes in the 9th.

 Brown, Spaulding, McFarland

I think the starting 5's for these teams will be something like the following. Should be pretty even, IMHO, overall.

Boone:

Gabbard senior G

Popp senior G

Cotton senior F

Lay (senior) or Montgomery (junior) F

Earls senior C

Highlands:

Kowolonek senior G

Lother or Gordon senior G

Grote senior F

Watson senior F

Grubbs senior C

Gabbard, Earls, Popp, and Cotton have all started a significant number of varsity games, and Lay started a few last year as well, so its not like they don't have lots of experience coming back. In addition, senior G Schulze started a few games last year and will come off the bench.

They will miss McFarland's muilti-talented play (and Brown's leadership until/unless someone steps up to be a leader), but talent/skill wise, they aren't losing a beat replacing Spaulding with Popp and Brown with Cotton. Boone returns 7 seniors and 2-3 other junior bench players who will be contributors. That's plenty of depth, IMO.

They may or may not benefit from more outside shooting. They didn't have a consistent outside threat last year, and they still did pretty well.

The 2010 class from both of these schools have always been very competitive with each other, going back a few years.

The season will have to play itself out.

Did I mention this kid? I'm not sure who you are asking about, or what this is in reference to.

I can't imagine Trevan Brown not starting for Boone.

He will definitely be one of the top 8 and will be a contributor. Nice bulky body for rebounding. I think he could start at times for Boone, depending on the opponent/situation and how Lay and Montgomery do. Montgomery and Brown have different strengths.

Ok.......that was just a touch of sarcasm, sorry you missed it ! You simply stated that Boone was returning their top two players....thought maybe you forgot McFarland played for them last year. Guess maybe he was their third or fourth best player, my bad?

Timmy Knipp should be rated higher, he is a very good basketball player. Boone isn't overrated, I believe Gabbard will take over games this season, they will give Holmes a good game. The ninth is deep this season.
