You have to respect Schneider for putting in so many years a private school where pay is low; however, he probably stayed on a bit too long.

Why should he have left?

This thread comes up every year it seems.......

Why should he have left?

If he has come to a point where he now physically can't do the job and complete the season, then he might have stayed on too long.

Read the article, he hasn't been on the sidelines since halftime of the Lloyd game and hes not going to be on the sidelines the rest of the year.

So a good time for him to have left was right before they went on a 4 year state finial run? The man has earned the right to leave at any time he wants. I’m sure if he looked in his crystal ball in January and knew he was going to have blood clots and a heart aneurysm in October he might have changed his mind about coaching this year.

Who might be Bob's successor if he does in fact step down at the end of the year? I have heard several times that his son Dave would no longer coach once his father decided to hang them up.

Maybe, leaving while the program is on top is the perfect time to make an exit.

I agree with you, to a point. I absolutely do not think he has hung around for too long...as evidenced by their 4 year run in the state finals. And for those who may attribute that to the fact that the play calling has, for a large part, been turned over to his son, that says to me that he's still a very capable as a head coach. That say's he is still conscientious enough to let someone who is more savvy, more qualified, or just plain better at the job take control of the play calling position. One of the primary responsibilities of a head coach is to figure out how to properly delegate responsibilities amongst their coaching staff. Bob Schneider has found a way to do that, and I applaud him for that.

I want to preface the rest of this post by saying I do not think Coach Schneider has stayed on too long. However, from what I'm reading I do think, unfortunately, that the time has come for him to step down.

I think to say that a coach as enormously successful as Bob should be able to "leave any time he wants" is somewhat inaccurate. Regardless of record, he is still there to do a job: to properly coach the team towards success. Success as a coach has many different aspects, (for clarification on these, see TOG's "Open Letter To Coach Wirth") but I think if a coach is unwilling to accept their inability to fulfill their responsibilities as head coach, then it's the responsibility of the school's administration to step in and ask the coach to step down.

I think what Coach Scheider has done is nothing short of amazing, but I think if it comes to a point that a coach's health is going to make it impossible for him to be on the sidelines at games for any major duration, then it's time to hand things over to someone capable of moving forward with the program.

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

How much of the show does Dave run now?

I did read the article. I was just making a true statement.

He has not been coaching since he got sick? Are they still counting those as wins for him?

I don't see how he doesn't retire this year, simply because of his health. I'd put my guess on Coach Wagner as the heir apparent. Pretty sure him and Dave are running most of the show with Bob sidelined from the sidelines. Dave doesn't have the credentials neccessary to be head coach as far as I know of though which would make Wagner the next in line.

O, and as long as Bob is listed as the head coach, which he is, he should get all those wins.

BTW Hope Coach Schnieder takes care and gets well. Definitely the cream of the crop when it comes to high school coaches, no matter the state or sport.

If the situation is what I've heard it is, Coach Schneider should put his health first and step aside. If that's the case, I hope he has a long run as the #1 fan in the NewCath stands at Bob Schneider Field. :notworthy::ylsuper:

Whatever the case, I wish him the best, which includes a 2A championship to go out on. Best of luck, Breds.
