Lou Holtz to Memphis?

Featured Replies

Can he even say Memphis.

I know Dr. Lou is old. But for this Memphis program just might work out.

Probably wanting to talk to his son.

Lou can recruit. His teams play great defense. With the right OC they would win C-USA. And more than likely make a BCS quicker than ND will.

Probably wanting to talk to his son.

Seems to me there would be no point in moving from one CUSA team to another. Does Memphis have some sort of tradition that I am unaware of? I don't know much about their football program.

I guess a positive would be the Memphis-area talent, and maybe some in Arkansas.

Additionally, the article says something about Holtz being at the E. Carolina/Memphis game as more than a coincidence. Sure, that is strange. But it's not as strange when you know that his son coaches ECU.

Why?

Maybe I'm not giving him enough credit. He may very well be a very good coach but after watching him on ESPN over these years its just made me continually beat my head against a wall rather than listen to Lou.

If he is hired off by Memphis, the lovefest for Lou and the Memphis Football program will most likely elevate to the point to where it is barely standable.

So I'm going to retract my previous statement and say as a broadcaster he is horrendous but as a coach he is successful. But if I were a player, I'm not sure if I could stand to listen or be around the guy after watching him on ESPN countless times...

I believe a lot of it on ESPN is more or less some of an act. His constant love with Notre Dame seems kind of like a running joke now. No disrespect to him, but his voice is a bit annoying and it'd be hard to get motivated on that, if it were me.

I don't think he'll be the coach, but I do believe he could get them to some bowl games... not necessarily big ones, but bowl games nonetheless.

^ I'm with you on that, don't care much for him on ESPN.

This is what I've started to believe over these past few years after watching Lou and Skip Bayless. I really hope that this is just an act and not what they actually believe. However I do agree with your last statement that I think they could get to a bowl game with him. If Lou is able to keep some of the intercity talent as well as the surrounding areas of Memphis they could have a very nice squad.

I'm with you 100%.

But what kind of fix is Memphis looking for, is what I want to know? It's not like Holtz would stay there five to ten years at his age now. Maybe their motive (if they hire Holtz) is just to put it in better position than it is now for a bigger winner down the road.

Maybe they just want a little publicity and to get to a bowl game or two and then get another younger quality coach.

I'm with you 100%.

This is pretty much my thinking.
