Based on what? Again, they have the athletes to counter some of the Falcons' speed. Where else does Fort Campbell have a decisive advantage? The line? Defense? Break this one down for me.

 

I would like to hear some of that break down also. I keep hearing a lot about Mayfield's speed. I will go out on a limb here without having seen Mayfield and say Beechwood is as fast or faster. Beechwood has pretty well matched or exceeded the speed of every team they have faced with the possible exception of Highlands. Unless Mayfield has Highlands speed, Beechwood will match them or be better in that area. If Mayfield is expecting to outspeed Beechwood, I will take Beechwood. The question for me is what kind of size does Mayfield have on their line?

Mayfield has more overall team speed than I have seen in quite some time. Like you having not seen Mayfield, I have not seen Bwood except on film and I doubt very much Bwood has that kind of overall team speed. LCA is the only one I have seen on film that might match it in 1A. Mayfield has beaten Beechwood in there only 2 meetings and if they were to meet this year it will be in Mayfield where I like the odds, especially after a 5 hour bus ride. Not saying Beechwood can't win but like I have been saying all year, its going to take a heck of a class 1A team to knock them out.

Mayfields speed is in the skill positions with Murrell, Noonan, Jackson and Ross at RB and at WR with Shelton, Higginson and Richardson...They're the ones that get all the press, but, the line play has been very good, as well... I can't remember Guhy getting sacked more than a couple of times all year and all of them are strong and have good foot work and run block well...

Now that's a problem. Beechwood has excellent speed but is small up front. That is why they have struggled against the 5A schools and teams with big lines. They are handling this much better now than earlier in the season, as evidenced by the win over Bellevue's big line and holding their own aginst New Cath's line. (Side note - NCC has a lineman that is 6'10" 325 lbs. and he is a junior). But, any team with a line that big is going to be a tough matchup for Beechwood this year.

I think Mayfield beats LCA in the 1A final. And there is little separation between LCA, Fort Campbell, Central, and Mayfield.

Now Mayfield and LCA that could be a good one.

I have had the pleasure of watching BOTH Ft Campbell and Mayfield. IMO, this game would be close until the opeing kickoff...then Ft Campbell would handle them easily. I dont have a dog in the fight but after watching both thats how I feel. And that is absolutely NO disrespect towards Mayfield...I just fell Ft Campbell is a top 5 team OVERALL this year.

You might be right, Gus. I haven't seen FC play but I know they are good and just might be a top 5 team. What games did you see Mayfield and FC play?

Ft. Campbell appears to be a level above all the other teams with Central having the best shot to knock them off in this scenario.
