November 8, 200916 yr The margin was five votes, 220-215. Only one Republican voted "yea," while 39 Dems went against it.
November 8, 200916 yr Sad day for America, I want everyone to be able to go to the doctor, but I don't want my children speaking Chinese when they invade us for all the money we owe them.
November 8, 200916 yr We don't have to worry about it too long. The world is supposed to end in December 2012 any way.
November 8, 200916 yr "So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause." I disagree completely, but that's still a really good line.
November 8, 200916 yr I disagree completely, but that's still a really good line. Our heathcare choices (in this bill) has the option of paying fines or going to jail if you don't follow it. So yes, this is how liberty dies.
November 8, 200916 yr I disagree completely, but that's still a really good line. Some call it socialism, some call it communism, come call it marxism. They are all wrong. This a return to fuedalism. You will owe the king or the lord (the Healthcare czar) an annual ransom for their protection each year. In the middle ages the protection came from a king and his knights and the castle walls. Now you are expected to pay for protection (health insurance) to a similiar function. And if you dont - off to the dungeon (prison time for not paying the mandated insurance.) "Supporter’s of the passage of the House’s bill is comparing the achievement to the passage of the government’s social security pension program in 1935 and the Medicare health insurance for the elderly in 1965." How wrong is the quoted statetment above. Those acts merely created taxes and expanded welfare functions. This act mandates payment by individiuals without regard to their earnings, it mandates minimum payments. It makes us all surfs. Yes, if this passes it will be the death of freedom in the United States.

Didnt the CBO say this bill would reduce the deficit? I also read that the CBO predicts that the premiums from the insurance will be higher than those from private companies. If so, doesn't that eliminate the "govt takeover" theory?

If so, doesn't that eliminate the "govt takeover" theory? Do you really trust the Congressional Budge Office? Washington lies to cover their own rears. No way in the long haul this saves this country money. I also don't like people being forced to do anything and this bill forces you to buy health care. Also, at a time when the economy is in shambles we are going to force small business to purchase health care plans for employees. The bill will also provide subsidies for those who can't meet the government premiums, which will make it cheaper than private companies.

It seems that the CBO is only "trusted" when it coincides with one's beliefs? Feel free to dispute their claims. I'm all for the discussion. However, its better if you can at least cite contradicting evidence.
November 8, 200916 yr Another interesting thing to me is how many people on here and elsewhere COMPLAIN TO HIGH HEAVENS about people who are on welfare and have us pay everything for them (including healthcare). We now are going to force people to pay their fair share and NOW its taking freedom away. Interesting.
