November 3, 200916 yr Does anyone else work from home? I started Friday and I must say it is one of the best things I've ever chose to do. I work for a call center, but they hooked me up with a computer and what not and sent me home. It is amazing, I don't have to leave my room, waste gas on driving to work, and I get to watch tv all day.

November 3, 200916 yr I've done it for almost 10 years. Its nice but its also a challenge depending on what type of job you have. I will assume that working for a call center means that you "work" when you get a call, correct? If so, that's not bad. However, if your job requires you to have a lot of self-motivation and is not tied to a clock it can be hard. Distractions are a problem. Its very easy to get involved in "issues" at home. Its very easy to slack off.
November 3, 200916 yr Author How much work to you get done and does everyone get the opportunity to do that? Yeah, as long as your internet is fast enough. I really do a lot of work, calls are pretty much back to back but it's about as easy as can be. Mornings are pretty slow though, I start at 830 and until about 10:00 there can be 5 to 10 minutes between calls.

Correct, but I'm a pretty basic level now so the calls tend to be frequent. I have noticed a loss in focus is very easy now.
November 3, 200916 yr I work from home on a 'need-to' basis. It's definitely not for everyone. As Clyde mentions, you have to be self motivated, because you can easily slack off. I've found that when I'm busy, I prefer to work from home. I can get more done at home as I don't have people coming into my cube every so often to talk.
November 3, 200916 yr I've loved it for 15 years! No water cooler conversations or office politics to distract you (just BGPreps!!). Only issue I had early on was being able to leave the job. It is always there--lurking--waiting for you to go back down to the office and finish up just 1 more task!

When I did that kind of work for Delta, I would've given anything to be able to work from home.

November 3, 200916 yr The company I currently work for is starting to offer this more. I'd love to do it, simply do to the fact that it'd be much easier to work more hours during school. I actually just applied for a position doing this but don't think it'll happen right now due to a conflict of schedule I'd have for training.
November 3, 200916 yr I do a lot of work from home, but I can't do all of it there without significantly upgrading my computer and software. Plus I have to keep some regular office hours to meet with the public. But I try to do as much from home as I possibly can, because I hate office environments.
November 3, 200916 yr I'm a Mr. Mom (retired) and my work never gets done at home, I might get caught up sometimes, but the boss is nice and there is a RedBox less than a mile from home.

They also offer split shifts, which I didn't think I'd like but the more I think about it the more I think I'm going to take it.
