Yankees 7 Phillies 4 World Series game 4

Featured Replies

Good question. I remember in 1990 that both the A's and Reds went with their aces in games 1 and 4.

Haven't there been a couple of pitchers that have won 1,4, and 7, and garnering the WS MVP?

Possibly Bob Gibson. I wanted to say Jack Morris also, but I'm pretty sure the home team won every game of the series between the Braves and Twins.

^Jack Morris started in games 1,4, and 7; he won games 1 and 7 but had a no-decision in game 4 loss in Atlanta. He still won the MVP trophy. Win Twins.

I believe that I would hold A.J. Burnett back for game 5, jmo. Cliff Lee will be going for the Phils on complete rest and you have a 3-1 game lead, would be tempting to go with your #4 starter for game 5 and rely on him and your bullpen. Should you lose then you go back to New York and have A.J. for game 6 on full rest, Pettite and C.C. all available if needed for a game 7 which I don't think will happen.

Just a thought :idunno: and I fully trust Joe Girardi in whatever he does. :thumb:

GO YANKEES!!!!

I think that's a good idea......but, like you I trust Girardi to make the right choice.

Go Yankees!!!

In '03 Beckett went on 3 days rest in game 6 and pitched a CG shut out to win the MVP.

Teams who have won Game 1 has gone on to win the World Series 11 of the last 12 times.

What's the stats for teams leading the series 3 to 1?

Who would you suggest for the #4 starter?

I've hit every game in this series! I think Philly made a mistake not throwing Lee tonight. He and AJ are throwing well but I think Lee wins tomorrow then Yanks win it in 6 at home.

I get on here all the time frustrated with the lack of fundamentals in Pro Baseball. Tonight is a prime example of what good heads up base running can do for a team. ARod has come up big under the radar. HR last game, one base all night the other night and hit by 3 pitches to take the bat out of his hands. He drove that ball to LF for the go ahead run again.

I've said the pen scares me and it showed again tonight leading up to Rivera (he looked solid). Utley continues to drop bombs!

I have to agree with you on all points made here stick. I picked the Yanks to win in game 1 with Philly winning a couple at home and the Yankees to win it all in game 6 in front of the home fans.

Even though I am in a minority and a Yankee fan I have to say when I heard the Philly fans booing Derek Jeter that told me all I need to know about their class and respect. I mean I get booing the Yanks, cheering "Yankees suck" and all of that I guess but to boo Jeter everytime he comes to bat :idunno:. Jeter is one of if not the most respected players in MLB today and usually at least gets respect everywhere he goes. Philadelphia sports fans (all sports) have a pretty bad reputation for being classless and that was a prime example. I am not saying the NYY fans are always pleasant, I know better than that as well :D, just the Philly fans imo are a joke.

O.K., I am off my soap box now, I just had to blast someone I guess and feel better now.

Very good. These are the only teams to come back from 3-1 in the W.S.

1. 1903 Boston Americans (Red Sox), down 1-3, won World Series 5-3 over Pittsburgh (best of nine format).

2. 1925 Pittsburgh Pirates, down 1-3, won World Series 4-3 over Washington.

3. 1958 New York Yankees, down 1-3, won World Series 4-3 over Milwaukee.

4. 1968 Detroit Tigers, down 1-3, won World Series 4-3 over St. Louis.

5. 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates, down 1-3, won World Series 4-3 over Baltimore.

6. 1985 Kansas City Royals, down 1-3, won World Series 4-3 over St. Louis.

Lee wins game 5 and unless Hamels can step up like he did last post-season the yanks are taking this one in 6.

Chad Gaudin.

Right, which is why it's a 3 man rotation and not a 4.

Didn't hear or see that actual quote, but I did hear Chris Rose on the pre-game show say that Hamel's said he can not wait for the season to be over.

Ozzie said, "I'd tell him, see you in spring training." AWESOME!

Throw Hamels out there, he'll want to end it before the Yankees do.

He would be nothing more than a sacrificial lamb served up to Cliff Lee's dominance thus far!

With the Yankees lineup, no way Girardi's conceding this game.

A coach thinks he can win every game.
