November 1, 200916 yr I believe Coach Brooks will be in the UK HOF someday for his impact on getting UK football back on solid footing. Is it possible, though, that he's done as much as he and his staff can do? Is it possible that its time for a new regime with the stated goal of kicking it up a notch for UK football? I'm a fan of the guy. I'm a fan of Mitch for sticking with him for so long. I'm just wondering, though, if its time to ask the question.
November 1, 200916 yr I think this will be Brooks' final season. It will be interesting to see what Phillips does as head coach. I believe he will make some changes on staff, although Brown will still be the defensive coordinator and Sanders likely will go to offensive coordinator. I know Phillips gets a lot of flack for some of his play-calling; I give plenty every weekend. But it could be different with him in charge. I think the team could be more exciting. Brooks can coach, but there isn't much pizazz about him and I think that sometimes rubs off on the players. Because of that, they don't always seem to have as much spark as they should.
November 1, 200916 yr Author Any chance that UK goes a different direction than Joker once Brooks calls it a day?
November 1, 200916 yr It's life in the SEC... there is no down week. He's done an amazing job and then job deserves to be his as long as he wants.

November 1, 200916 yr Author The... "He's done an amazing job" part of my post. Amazing is relative. If you mean that he's done a great job at rebuilding the program , as I mentioned, I agree. However, in your mind, can he get us to the next level in the SEC?

November 1, 200916 yr Author When's the last time UK won 3 straight bowl games? I love UK winning bowl games and the stiff arm on the fumble return will go down as one of my favorite plays. However, lets keep this in proper perspective. 6-6 gets you into a bowl today. You can't use that in comparison to previous years when 7 to 8 wins were needed to be in bowl discussion. Are you satisfied with the bowls UK has been to? Will you continue to be satisfied going to Shreveport, Memphis, or Nashville? Or is it now time to raise expectations?

IMO, UK will never get above their current status as long as they are in the SEC. Unless of course they somehow manage to bring in an elite coach, even then they would have their work cut out for them. Joker is not that guy.
November 1, 200916 yr Should UK try? I don't see any reason to change things up at this point. Brooks has as good of a chance at doing it than anyone else IMO.

So we as UK fans should just accept that we're never going to compete? We shouldn't at least make an effort to raise the level? That would seem to indicate that all we're really interested in is a strong basketball team and a "competitive" football team. That's just a self-fulfilling prophecy.
