November 1, 200916 yr So we as UK fans should just accept that we're never going to compete? We shouldn't at least make an effort to raise the level? That would seem to indicate that all we're really interested in is a strong basketball team and a "competitive" football team. That's just a self-fulfilling prophecy. Crawl... walk... run. It is not a fast process to get to the elite level, but we have been on the way up thanks to Papa Brooks... it is too early to talk about a regime change IMO.

Now for the question of has he took it as far as he can: I'm not sure, it is possible. I'm not sold on Joker as the head coach though, I'm interested to see how that turns out.
November 1, 200916 yr I believe Coach Brooks will be in the UK HOF someday for his impact on getting UK football back on solid footing. Is it possible, though, that he's done as much as he and his staff can do? Is it possible that its time for a new regime with the stated goal of kicking it up a notch for UK football? I'm a fan of the guy. I'm a fan of Mitch for sticking with him for so long. I'm just wondering, though, if its time to ask the question. I'm wondering the same thing as well...but I was thinking of a different team. Should South Carolina try to find a better coach and a bigger name to step it up to the next level? It takes a lot of time and effort and patience to turn a perennial SEC cellar dweller into a contender. Heck, maybe UK and USC can upgrade to Tuberville and Richt.:idunno:

November 1, 200916 yr How long are we walking? Good question. Most of my life we have been crawling though.
November 1, 200916 yr What if Brian Kelly let it be known that he would take the UK job? So we aren't keeping this realistic? I will take Urban Meyer or Pete Carroll... can't decide.
November 1, 200916 yr Author So we aren't keeping this realistic? I will take Urban Meyer or Pete Carroll... can't decide. Why would BK be unrealistic?
November 1, 200916 yr If I had asked any UK fan 7 years ago if they would have thought UK would ever have 3 straight winning season and be in the middle of a campaign that could lead to their fourth straight winning season, every UK fan I could have found would have told me I was crazy. Now that it's happening UK fans are already starting to question if the coach who got them this far can take them any further? With the history of UK football it is more likely they will step back after Brooks leaves than take another step forward, but that's just my thought.
November 1, 200916 yr Why would BK be unrealistic? Extremely. He's close to the point that he can get any job he wants.

November 1, 200916 yr They need to upgrade the whole staff and head coach, because this team will not be a high caliber team until they get better play calling.
November 1, 200916 yr Some realistic names I'd go after if I were UK and Brooks left anytime soon-BTW, I know that Joker is the "coach in waiting": Charlie Strong-Florida Mark Whipple-Miami Greg Davis-Texas Turner Gill-Buffalo Dave Clawson-Bowling Green-sleeper pick. Skip Holtz-Eastern Carolina Derek Dooley-Louisiana Tech Tommy Bowden-Former Clemson Coach Ken Norton-USC Some of these names aren't very sexy, but neither is Kentucky football.

How about Mark Richt? Can we have him please
