Coach Brooks

Featured Replies

What you said, is exactly how I feel about it. Brooks is laying a great foundation, he knows how long to stay IMO. What ever he says goes, IMO. UK is lucky to have gotten Brooks.:thumb:

To be honest, I didn't know him from Adam when he got the job. But I liked what I saw in his no nonsense approach to the game. I also saw his loyalty to players which was refreshing. EG. When Chris Cessna from North Laurel blew his knee early in his senior season after verbally committing to UK, he and his family were worried that Brooks would pull his scholly. It was perfectly legit for him to do that and they stated that they would understand if he did, although they would be disappointed. Brooks did not and advised Chris 'You kept your commitment to us when the bigger football programs came knocking and we are keeping ours to you.' Every player I have talked to have the ultimate respect for him. And he took a job that honestly nobody else wanted.

Great post. I'm not totally convinced on Joker, but you are right. Coach Brooks deserves to do as he wishes, for he has flat out earned that. :thumb:

I heard that some in Oregon were not totally sold on Bellotti when he assumed the reins when Brooks left. That worked out okay for them, so I will trust Brooks' judgement on this one, ... but I also have a few concerns. I know that Brooks went to Barnhart about locking Joker up as his successor he was aware that other teams were very interested in Joker. I believe that Joker deserves his chance once Old Blue decides to retire.

My biggest concern right now isn't the offense, which I think is starting to progress a little bit, but the defense which gave up 300 yards rushing against Miss St. I know that Dixon is an awesome back, but still, ... he ripped thru our defense like a knife thru hot butter. If they go back to being more physical as they were against Auburn, my concerns should be wiped away.

I understand your defensive concerns.

Keep in mind, this defense is playing without the services of NFLer Jeremy Jarmon, injured Trevard Lindley, and part time effect play of Michah Johnson.

You put this guys on the defense on a full time basis and it might make a dramatic change.

Excellent points. Johnson was nowhere near 100%. I had forgotten about the loss of Jarmon. Hopefully Johnson and Lindley are back very soon at 100% or somewhere near it.

I do think maybe something should/could change defensively. But, I'm not going to complain about it. When I was younger UK was such a joke, I really can't be mad with any thing that happens now.

At least there's one more person out there wondering the same thing...:idunno:

I agree with you 100%. If he were at UK, you can bet that we would have some fans calling for his head.

I think we learn two things from this...

1) The fact that UK's defense has been as competitive as it has despite losing it's best lineman and pass rusher before the season, playing significant time without its best corner (one of the best in college football) and now its best LB is banged up, tells me that Brooks has improved the depth on the roster, he's doing a good job coaching these guys, and he has them competing every week.

2) We still have a lot of work to do to get to where we need to be in the SEC both talent-wise and depth-wise.

In the past, our defenses wouldn't have been this good with everyone at 100%.

I agree. We do have more depth than in years past. That just really hurt to see the D carved up like that. I do know that UK is faster these days than they were previously.
