I get the premise, but to relate to BK is a total farce. Like most of the best head coaches he is a total control freak, and there is no way he'd agree to take a step down the ladder (even if temporary) no matter how much money they threw at him. I honestly think his head would explode if he didn't have control over every aspect of the program after 18 years of doing things his way.

 

As for ND I guess we'll have to wait and see. I still think that if they can Front Butt that the #1 target will be Gruden...

I don't see a valid comparison...Fisher and Muschamp were coordinators at other schools that their current programs hired away and eventually designated as head coach when (blank) retires.

If and when BK leaves UC, it will be a for a bigger HC job. I would like to see him continue to build the UC program and stay put, but in today's society, that is unlikely. He would be my national COY this season.

Stuff like that is why I have a difficult time respecting bloggers as serious journalists.

I'm with GT on this one. ZERO chance any coach of BK's caliber would EVER step back and take the OC job at ANY big-time university.

Most likely though UC will need a replacement for BK in the future. That is the key to their program IMO. They need a guy who can maintain, ala Whittingham at Utah, or they will become another U of L. GT do any of BK's assistants have the resume to be a potential replacement?

Maybe DC Bob Diaco, but I think he still needs a little more seasoning. DL coach Mike Elston is going to make a really good head coach down the road, but he has yet to be a coordinator so he's likely not ready either. One name that could be in the mix is Butch Jones who was on the staff in 2004 at CMU with BK before heading to WVU for two years and then taking over for Kelly when he came to UC...
