October 28, 200916 yr Kelly wins the battle because we can do this right now. Offer him the OC job with a commitment to name him the head coach when JT retires. We are seeing other schools do this to hang onto outstanding assistants. Pay him well enough to make money a non-issue is his decision. He was born in Everett, Mass but has been in this part of the country since 1991, first in Michigan and now in Cincinnati. I think that is enough time to set down roots and get a feel for midwest sensibilities. I don't know if he would accept this. He is a hot commodity and I doubt Cincinnati can keep him. Many schools are hiring highly successful head coaches to OC jobs so they might get to be the coach a few years down the road? When said coach has been the top dog since 1991? Im a big Brian Kelly fan and think he is destined for great things. There is ZERO chance that he would go be a HCIW somewhere. He is better then Tressel RIGHT NOW. It is the only way to keep high profile coordinators when other programs will try to lure away with $$$. In the OSU article they meant give BK head coaching money to be the OC then take over when JT hangs it up. I still think BK goes to ND.
October 28, 200916 yr I'm with GT on this one. ZERO chance any coach of BK's caliber would EVER step back and take the OC job at ANY big-time university. To even think that he would consider it would cause your football knowledge to come into question.

Like most of the best head coaches he is a total control freak, and there is no way he'd agree to take a step down the ladder (even if temporary) no matter how much money they threw at him. I still think that if they can Front Butt that the #1 target will be Gruden...

He is a VERY powerful public speaker. He sat down with us and went over the San Diego game a few years ago and you can just tell the light bulb is on for him. UC is very fortunate.
