October 26, 200916 yr Your premise is about as false as it could possibly be. Unless you're getting one of those choice gigs on ESPN like Forde and Andy Katz has, or you're with the Sporting News or Sports Illustrated, the metro daily paper is where you're going to find the best sports writers in the biz. You guys wouldn't be happy unless it was someone doing nothing each and every issue except beating a drum about how all-holy and infalliable UK is. The Lexington herald seems to have failed with your theory. I don't mind what Jerry Tipton writes that much. I think he just gets too redundant and is not a very good writer. On the other hand Mark Story is just out to get coaches fired. He is like an idiot fan calling for every coach's head. If it was up to him Rich Brooks would have been fired years ago and we would have already fired Calipari.
October 26, 200916 yr Fact of the matter is not matter if its Tipton, Forde, or whoever, worst come to worst Wall may miss the Morehead game and a couple others and thats it. How these writers can get paid writing about this so many days in a row is beyond me. It's almost pointless for anybody to even be worried about this.
October 26, 200916 yr I just love how wireman keeps the Lville fans stirred up. It is funny that they are acting toward him just like they say the UK fans are toward Tipton. Wireman keep up the good work and you will be in the hall of fame right a long side of Tipton.

Would that not make any fans from any team happy?

Would that not make any fans from any team happy? It just shows how deluded an extremely large number of UK fans (and fans in general) are when it comes to understanding the role of the newspaper/news media in society. Being a fan isn't the job of the writers for the C-J, Herald-Leader and other papers, nor should you want them to be.
October 26, 200916 yr I agree with Jim at the same time as I'm disagreeing with him. You will be hard-pressed to find a fan that can talk about their favorite teams with less bias than myself, so I feel pretty comfortable in what I'm saying. With that said, Tipton has a knack for taking any story with UK involved and finding the worst possible way to spin it. He's found a way to be successful at it, though, and he's to be commended at that. But if there's a negative to report, then I do believe it's his job to report it. I don't feel that Jerry has an obligation to only write good things about the University of Kentucky, because as much as I'd like to believe it, not everything about the University is good. But to be fair to Jerry, I only reads his articles when someone links them. They aren't something I go out of my way to pursue. For all I know, for every 10 articles he writes that are negative, he could write 10 more that are positive. If they are there, nobody is linking them so I'm not reading them.

Is this a taste of Obama's America?
October 27, 200916 yr And a fan isn't allowed to have an opinion about some of the writers? Is this a taste of Obama's America? Fans are supposed to brainless in Shue's world. None of us are smart enough to understand the role of the media.

None of us are smart enough to understand the role of the media. Having an opinion of the writers is fine and to be expected and encouraged. But fans need to get the idea out of their heads that the writers in the local paper should be the leaders of the fanboy choir. They're not paid to be fans; they're paid to ask the questions fans want to ask, or should be asking.

October 27, 200916 yr And with each year, fewer & fewer are on the payroll. So are you suggesting that they should be in order to save their newspapers?
