Oldham County 10 Anderson County 7

Featured Replies

Oldham gets field goal with just over 3:00 to play. Anderson gets to the Oldham County 9, but can't punch it in.

Anderson seems to be fading as of late with a close call against South Oldham last week and a lost to Oldham this week. I expect Coach Peach and Jacob Russell to come back firing these next couple weeks. I wish both teams the best of luck for the remainder of the season.

This one is a shocker.

This one is a shocker.

No Bowling Green losing to Warren Central is an even bigger shocker.:ylsuper:

Congrats Coach Brown and company. Is this the first district title since the 2000 season for Oldham? It's great to see OC back on track.

This is a bit of a shocker. Congrats to OC:thumb:

As predicted, AC offense vs. OC defense - and defense wins championships, as they say.

Amazing stats of the night: Halftime Anderson offensive numbers:

ZERO first downs, -5 total yards of offense on just twelve plays from scrimmage.

This was the most dominating defensive first half of football I've ever seen, when two top ten teams were on the field at the same time.

This from the #2 scoring offense in 5A (40.1 ppg) which was averaging over 430 yards of offense per game coming in.

Oldham hit hard and fast...

In fairness to Anderson, their defense played very well, too - they were just overshadowed by an incredible Oldham defensive effort.

Oldham managed just 118 first half yards and three first downs - but put together a drive on their second possession and got the score with 1:59 to play in the first quarter on a 15 yard Tyler Oldham run.

Oldham just missed a second TD in the final minute, when backup QB Joel Hennings took a pitch from Hamby, rolled to his left, but missed a wide-open receiver who was 7-8 yards beyond the defense...

7-0 at the half.

Anderson came out fired up on the first possession of the second half, and moved 65 yards on about a 5-minute drive. Justin Combs took it over from 3 and Bill Rose's PAT tied it at 7 with 7:34 to play in the 3rd.

It stayed that way until Oldham took over early in the fourth. After keeping the ball primarily on the ground up until that point (quarterback Chase Hamby was 1-3 passing through three quarters), Oldham went to the air in the fourth, and Hamby was 5 for 5 passing in the period, completing passes of 12, 24, 8, 22, and 17 yards to three different receivers. Oldham drove to a 1st and goal at the ten, but two penalties backed it up outside the AC 30...but the Colonels still managed to get back inside the ten before settling for a 24 yard Jake Weigel FG into a stiff wind with 3:08 to play.

Oldham tried a squib kick to avoid Anderson's dangerous returners (both teams kicked away from dangerous return men such as Oldham's Antonio Brown and Anderson's Ben Walker all night...), but AC caught a break when one of the front linemen managed to fall on the ball, giving AC the ball on their own 45 with about 3 minutes to play. Russell moved AC quickly into OC territory, and the Bearcats had first and goal at the Oldham 9 with half a minute left. But on first down, Oldham's Zach Littlefield sacked Russell - one of four Oldham sacks on the night - for a loss of 14, back to the OC 23.

Under pressure on each play, Russell threw three consecutive incompletions, and Oldham took over on downs and ran out the clock.

Russell was on the run all night and it's to his credit he was only sacked four times. He threw with Oldham defenders draped all over him several times, including two of his final three throws. Two of his final three throws were forced into double coverage and the other one overthrew everyone in the endzone because he was being ridden to the ground and had to throw off his back foot.

For the game, Anderson managed a mere 147 yards of total offense. The Bearcats (unofficially) had 56 yards on the ground on 23 carries - but 40 of those yards came on one run by Ben Walker. Russell was 12-20-0 for 86 yards passing.

Oldham had 227 yards of offense, with 128 yards rushing. Tyler Oldham had 74 yards and one TD on 14 carries. Chase Hamby was 6 for 8 passing for 99 yards.

Befitting a district title game, neither team turned the ball over.

Oldham County wins the District for the second year in a row, and now leads the all-time series against Anderson, 5-1.

Kudos to Anderson for hanging in there when their forte - a punishing offense - simply couldn't get off the mat. I was very impressed that the big guys on that line - four of whom play both ways in the trenches - were still able to run to make plays late in the game. We're talking some REALLY big players - 290, 270, etc. - but they held up well.

Congratulations to the Colonels for a tremendous effort. Despite a solid season, not many gave Oldham much credit or any chance to win. This was a solid team victory. The Colonels will need to raise the bar even higher next week against top 10 6A Shelby County...

I'm kind of amazed anyone thought this was a shocker, though...if you've seen these teams over the last few years, you know this is going to be a hard-fought game. And the Oldham defense is extremely good.

Great job by coach Love and the OC DEEfence.....

Oldham's Kirk Yepko gets this man's nod for "Hit of 2009"...Yepko isn't the biggest player ever play linebacker, but his first half hit on Ben Walker, right as Walker received a little screen pass behind the line of scrimmage was the biggest hit I've seen in the 11 games we've broadcast this season...

OMG!! :scared:

Of course, he had some company tonight. Oldham's first half defense was overpowering. 6 of Anderson's 12 first half plays from scrimmage went for negative yardage...

Some one help me with WHY this is a Shocker?

OC's losses came to very strong 6A schools. Have they lost to anyone in their class? Anderson struggled with SO they same way OC struggled with Grant.

These two teams were evenly matched and actually to me the game was a push. Shocker? Only to fans of one of the teams. To a football fan, this does not surprise me. Coach Brown has the Colonels right where he wants them.

Oldham did not look early in the year nearly as good as Anderson. They obviously are a better team now, but Anderson had a more dominant air about them for most of the season. I am shocked but not unhappy. Congrats OC.

Good coaches coach for the end of the season, not the beginning, and Oldham was busy battling upper-tier 6A teams the first part of the season. Keep in mind also that Oldham lost its starting QB and two starting linebackers early in the season that forced Oldham to change some things, schematically.

Keep in mind also that in two of those games vs 6A teams - Conner and Eastern - Oldham probably should have won. The Colonels dominated Conner statistically, and led after 3 quarters. But a spate of injuries late in the game riddled the Colonel "D", and Conner got a couple of 4Q turnovers to change the game. Oldham lost in OT to Eastern, again despite controlling the game, when Eastern went for 2 after scoring a TD in OT. The only team so far this year to really take Oldham's measure, was top 10 6A Scott County at Scott County...

Bottom-line is, the Colonels lost all three of those games, but my point is, they were very competitive with their three game "6A Schedule", and that schedule was pretty darn tough.

Not surprised at all at the job Coach Brown and an EXCELLENT staff are doing at OC.

Don't forget, most people were saying at the beginning of the season this would be a rebuilding year for them after losing a bunch of VERY good kids off last year's team.

Matt's doing it while stressing CLASS and CHARACTER on and off the field with a requirement of real COMMITMENT in the off-season. Kids coming out of OC's football program will not only be proud of their accomplishments on the field, but will be better MEN because of them.

That's the true measure of a successful coach and coaching staff.
